A few years ago, our members told us in no uncertain terms that Countryside YMCA needed to

change; we listened. Since then, our Makeover Madness renovations have been underway and the results are impressive.

Our Phase 1 changes are completed and member feedback has been positive. Seniors are raving about changes to the Stolle Center, where, for improved safety and convenience, we added a changing room to the pool deck and moved Starter Fitness. The new Lower Level Main Gym provides an additional court and space to play. Everyone is flipping over our new Gymnastics Center, which is large enough for us to have our men’s gymnastics equipment out and accessible. The refreshed Lower Level locker rooms provide additional changing rooms for families and a nicer overall experience for members. The Strive circuit training equipment moved up to the CSC, and is now a more convenient workout option for members.

Thank you for being patient and accommodating the construction noise and debris. We know the buzzing of construction is the sound of progress, moving us to a better YMCA.

Perhaps this year you are hoping to progress to a new level of fitness or a new level of community involvement. We encourage you to take advantage of all the Y has to offer. Our Engagement Coaches are available to meet with members and help you get the most from your membership. For no additional cost you can meet with a coach, set goals, and let the coach connect you with the right YMCA programs. Whether you want improved personal fitness, extra family time, more connection with others, or the chance to contribute to our community, we are here for you.

As you work to meet your 2016 goals, we will be working right alongside you, building a better facility for us all. Phase 2 of the renovation is currently underway and this spring we will open a new Arts and Education center, a new free weight area, a new convenient entrance, an upgraded Child Watch, a new fitness studio, and an improved spin studio. As we all strive for positive results, rest assured that we can’t wait to swap success stories with you!

Cheers!

Mike

Countryside YMCA needed to change; we listened. The Phase One Makeover Madness work is completed, and we are well underway on the Phase 2 work. Take a look at what’s been accomplished, and join our excitement in the improvements still to come!

» The Family Gym is in a temporary location while its new home is being renovated.

» Starter Fitness moved, and is now open at its new location next to the Stolle Center.

» Strive Studio moved, and is now open in the CSC.

With a 150-year history of helping people learn to swim, the Y’s swimming classes are designed to teach this lifelong skill to people

of all ages and skill levels in a safe environment. Whether your child is learning to swim, developing skills, or seeking a competitive swim environment, Countryside YMCA offers a range of swim, dive and water adventure programs to nurture his or her needs. All classes are led by qualified, trained instructors.

All Y swim instructors are nationally certified and have a minimum of 40 hours of training, including:• AED• CPR• First Aid• Oxygen Administration

PROGRESSIVE SWIM LESSONSSwim lessons at Countryside YMCA help students learn the basics, improve skills, practice safety and rescue skills, and have fun. Lessons are progressive and class sizes are small so students get the personalized instruction they need to build vital skills and prepare for the next program level.

PREPARING FOR LESSONSNot sure which lesson is the best match for you or your child? Contact Karla Toye at 513 932 1424 ext 152 to schedule a free skill level assessment. Review these tips for what to expect, what to wear, and what to bring to YMCA Swim Lessons:• Bring your membership card or photo ID.• You don’t need to be a full member of the Y to take swimming lessons,

but members receive a discount on lessons and classes. You can become a programs-only member called a Program Member.

• Clothes, street shoes, diaper bags, and other personal items can be stored in the locker rooms; bring your own lock and leave your valuables at home.

• Plan to arrive with enough time to change into swimming attire.• Come to class dressed and ready for the pool:

• A family-appropriate and clean swimsuit is required for all class and lesson participants.

• Tight-fitting rubber or plastic pants with swim diaper are required for children who are not yet potty-trained.

• Those who chill easily may benefit from a swim shirt or ear bands.• Use caution while walking on the pool deck. Floor will be slippery

from the pool water.• Goggles are permitted and preferred in the pool; masks and

snorkels are not (unless otherwise noted).• Please bring a towel to class.

• All class and lesson participants must shower with soap before entering the pool.

• Participants should use the restroom before class; staff is not permitted to take students to the restroom.

• All pools are heated.• The Y is committed to keeping class and lesson sizes small so swimmers

get the expert personal attention they need to succeed.• If you or your child has a fear of water, or have had a bad experience

with water, arrive at your class or lesson a little early to inform the instructor. Please let the instructor know of any information you think will help your child succeed.

• Parents of children age six years and under must remain in the pool area during lessons.

• The pool might be available to Y members before or after lessons for open swimming; check the pool schedule online for the most current information.

ACCOMMODATION PROCESSThe Y considers the individual needs of every person and the ability of the program to meet those needs. Please inform the Swim Lesson Coordinator before enrolling if you or a family member requires any special accommodation. This information enables the Y to better meet your needs or those of a family member, with available resources and to the extent reasonable. All staff that will be working with you or a family member with special needs will be informed of how to care for or meet those needs.

Clogging For Fun & Fitness with NancyCome try a clogging class - the first class meeting you attend is FREE! Sign up only if you like it! Clogging is “called” much like square dancing is, so you don’t have to memorize dance routines - you learn lots of individual steps like the Outhouse, the Turkey, the Cowboy, and the Rocking Chair, and when the music starts, you listen to the caller, and voila! Learn a whole new dance in a few short minutes! Line dancing, move over - clogging is the next level of fun! (Wear tap shoes, jingle-tap clogging shoes, or smooth-soled shoes that don’t grip the floor.)

RECREATIONAL GYMNASTICSThe goal of the Recreational Gymnastics Program is to provide a fun, safe environment for children ages 6-15 years to learn progressive skills on all gymnastics equipment (Girls: floor, bars, beam, and vault. Boys: floor, rings, high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse, and vault). Each class emphasizes balance, strength, spatial awareness, flexibility, and high-energy fun! All athletes will grow at their individual pace with encouragement and positive reinforcement from our teaching staff. More than ever, families are involved in a variety of different sports and activities throughout the year. This program has many class offerings. You pick and choose what works with your family’s schedule; multiple class registrations are welcome. As always, make-up classes are available after the first week of the session if the class is not full.

GIRLS Beginner I Girls GymnasticsGymnasts will focus on core strength, arm strength, and the coordination necessary to learn headstands, handstands, cartwheels, and forward rolls- the fundamental building blocks of almost all gymnastics skills. They will spend time learning proper swing techniques, front supports, and forward roll dismounts on bars. Introduction to walking, turning, and scales on beam will improve balance and coordination. The focus on vault will begin with correct running techniques and spring board approach with proper body form. Gymnasts will practice safety on all equipment. Proper attire required.

GROUP SPORTS LESSONSSport classes engage youth in healthy activities by introducing them to the fundamentals of a specific sport in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Youth will develop confidence, sportsmanship, and respect for self and others by participating in these recreational classes.

ArcheryThe Archery class provides children the opportunity to participate in an activity that promotes concentration and self-control but also includes the excitement of shooting sports and the thrill of competition. What makes HisPins different is the addition of spiritual life lessons and being part of a fun family. The class is taught by USA Archery Certified instructors.

Countryside YMCA is a community that cares about the people in Warren County. We exist to put Christian principles into

practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Members are encouraged to grow in caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith as they work toward a healthier lifestyle.

Family Resource CenterThe Countryside YMCA Family Resource and chapel provides a quiet place for unhurried prayer, Bible Study meetings, meditation and contemplation. The chapel also includes a library with a wide range of books to help you deal with many of life’s challenging issues including parenting, marriage, grief, and spiritual growth. We hope that you will be able find resources that will help you put Christian principles into practice in daily living.

Bible Verses and Spiritual VitaminsEvery time you visit Countryside YMCA, you’ll see scriptures posted around the building. It’s one way we inspire and encourage our membership. At every entrance you’ll also find daily “Spiritual Vitamins” to further build your spirit.

Seminars and Growth EventsCountryside YMCA hosts various seminars and conferences throughout the year that focus on building character within families. Examples include marriage conferences, parenting seminars and seminars to help people grow in their faith.

Bible StudiesThere are many Bible studies offered throughout the year at Countryside YMCA. Search Christian Emphasis online for our current program schedule to see what Bible studies are being offered now.

ProgramsThere are many programs designed to help people grow in their relationship with God or to help people in the midst of certain life struggles such as grief, divorce, or financial struggles. Search Christian Emphasis online for our current program schedule to see what programs are being offered now.

GriefShare (13-week program)GriefShare is a grief recovery and support group, sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing in the loss of a spouse, child, family member or friend. You probably feel there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you are feeling. This 13 week course is designed to offer practical encouragement as you move through this difficult time. Each GriefShare session includes a video seminar and a group discussion. You will receive a GriefShare workbook to assist you with note-taking , journal-ing and grief study. The videos feature experts on grief recovery, dramatic reenactments about living with grief, and real-life stories of people who have experienced losses like yours. During the small group discussion time, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with others who have experienced a recent loss.
