TAFE SA is a great pathway option to university for a student who:

> is looking for a competitive edge, with two qualifications setting you apart from other graduates

> prefers the hands-on and supportive learning environment of TAFE SA, before taking the leap to university

> seeks an alternative entry to university.

tafesa.edu.au/unipathways

DUAL OFFER COURSESSecure your pathway to university and gain a competitive edge by studying a dual offer course. Dual offer courses enable you to apply for a TAFE SA qualification and a connected university program at the same time.

You will gain guaranteed entry with credit into the university degree upon successful completion of the TAFE SA qualification. This will give you vocational and academic qualifications, setting you apart from other graduates.

TAFE SA has more than 60 dual offer courses in partnership with the South Australian public universities.

CREDIT TRANSFERCredit transfer is a way for your TAFE SA qualification to be recognised at university – so you don’t have to repeat study for the skills you’ve already gained.

Universities will recognise your qualification for some time after you have graduated, so you don’t have to apply to university straight away – you may choose to work for a while and then return to study to further your career.

We work closely with universities to create clear credit pathways, so you can easily plan your future study.

UNIVERSITY ENTRYOnce you have successfully completed a TAFE SA qualification at Certificate IV level or higher, you can use this to apply for entry into most university programs. Sometimes universities guarantee admission based on your TAFE SA qualification.

DEGREES AND TAFE SATAFE SA offers its own higher education degrees which combine industry-focused applied content and academic rigour. A TAFE SA Associate Degree provides you with a strong base to either enter the workforce or continue your studies at university.

FROM UNIVERSITY TO TAFE SAMany university students also undertake study at TAFE SA to increase their employability by gaining industry-specific practical skills. The knowledge and skills gained through university study may be recognised at TAFE SA, allowing you to fast-track your vocational qualification.

They traditionally focus on trade-related areas such as automotive, building, construction, hairdressing and plumbing, and are usually completed in four years.

Traineeships are similar to apprenticeships and are also offered in a wide range of declared vocations but are generally completed in one or two years. However, traineeships and apprenticeships can be completed in any time frame provided all competencies have been achieved.

> Your training will contribute towards your SACE (or equivalent).

> You will start your chosen career or trade while you’re still at school.

> You will earn money while you learn

> You will gain experience in the trade or vocation of your choice.

HEALTH AND LIFESTYLE

If you are interested in the health and wellbeing of others, a career in health may be right for you. As governments and communities place increasing importance on well-trained staff to work in residential, community and home settings, high-quality, industry-recognised training is essential.

Our health-related courses can lead to careers in allied health, natural therapy, enrolled nursing, dental, fitness, sport and recreation and in pathology collection.

HEALTH AND LIFESTYLE

38TAFE SA – COURSE GUIDE

Allied Health and AdministrationWorkers in the health and allied health industry play key roles in delivering services within community, residential and clinical settings. With an ageing population, demand for health services continues to rise. Health assistants support allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, dieticians, speech therapists, podiatrists and occupational therapists within general health and allied health settings.

Our health administration courses prepare you with the skills required to meet the many complex challenges that health support services staff and health administrators face in the modern health, aged care, hospitals, health centres and private practice industries.

Complementary HealthComplementary health covers a range of natural therapies such as aromatherapy, massage and reflexology, that aim to alleviate a variety of symptoms and assist with general health and wellbeing. Many complementary therapies are recognised by medical professionals as part of an integrated approach to healthcare. Practitioners work in a range of healthcare settings, from home-based clinics to hospitals.

DentalDental care has moved from a focus on repairing cavities and decay to proactive, preventative measures. Dental hygienists, assistants, technicians and prosthetics work closely with dentists in the care and treatment of patients’ teeth, gums and oral cavities. As the population ages and people become more aware of the value of their teeth, dental workers continue to be in demand.

Our courses will ensure you are industry ready as we use a flexible learning and assessment approach that reflects current science and practice in dentistry.

Fitness, Sport and RecreationOur fitness, sport and recreation training options include exercise programming, sports psychology, and addressing clients’ needs. Our work-ready graduates bring value to their employers with cutting-edge knowledge and a commitment to communication and teamwork.

Nursing and PathologyIn a TAFE SA nursing course you’ll learn about contemporary nursing practice, law and ethics, anatomy and physiology. Other topics include acute and chronic health disorders, clinical nursing skills and medication management. Study in this area can lead to qualification as an Enrolled Nurse (EN), enabling you to provide nursing care in hospitals, aged-care facilities and other health care settings.

Pathology specimen collectors (phlebotomists) are vital members of a pathology laboratory team, required to possess considerable technical expertise and interpersonal skills. Their role includes collecting blood and other specimens from hospital patients and external clients for pathology testing.

WellbeingUnderpinned by the latest research in positive psychology, our courses in wellbeing are interactive and practical to equip you with knowledge and skills applicable in personal and professional settings.
