Course-Level Assessment Plan CY 2017__________________________ Department

2017 Assessment of Student Learning Guidelines1. The Assessment of Student Learning Committee has established the following guidelines for this academic year’s assessment of

student learning: a. Each department should select at least two CSLOs to be assessed per course prefix. (One CSLO would be adequate if the

CSLO requires complex or time-intensive collection or analysis of data.b. The CSLOs must be selected from the state-wide CSLO listings established for courses in the Colorado Community College

System.  c. The activity or assignment selected to assess each CSLO should be relevant and reliable. d. CSLOs for high enrollment courses and/or gatekeeper courses should be assessed across multiple sections of the same

course and across more than one course within a department if applicable.e. During this assessment cycle, chairs may elect not to assess student learning in courses that have low enrollment, courses

that are offered infrequently, and/or courses for which there is some other compelling reason to bypass in this assessment cycle.  (Chairs who do not plan to assess courses in a particular prefix should provide the division’s ASL faculty lead with a brief explanation, which will be included in our division’s final report.

f. The department chair should not be solely responsible for departmental assessment. All full-time faculty members are expected to be involved in the assessment of student learning. Part-time instructors’ involvement should be encouraged and noted in the section of the assessment plan provided for this purpose.

g. All full-time faculty and part-time instructors at branch campuses should be included in the assessment process: planning, data collection, and analysis of results.

h. Courses taught at branch campuses should be included in the assessment process.i. Dual credit courses taught at the high schools should be included in the assessment process. A comparison between and

among campuses should be part of the department’s analyses at the end of the assessment cycle.

Timeline: Plan Final Deadline: Last Friday in February

Course-level Assessment Plans for each department due to ASL faculty lead who will review, return to chair for revisions if necessary, and post after revisions are completed

Data CollectionCollect data for each semester (Spring, Summer, and Fall 2017) that courses with the selected CSLOs are offered. Increase sampling or make other adjustments to the data collection process as needed and record any changes by updating this Assessment Plan form.

Reporting ResultsFinal ASL report will be due to ASL Division Leads by the end of January 2018.Forthcoming: updated Assessment Report form that includes a record of changes made to the Assessment Plan, analysis of results, and action plans for improving student performance on the planned CSLOs.

CSLOs: Course-Level Student Learning Outcomes

In the table below, enter a numbered list of all current course offerings within your discipline prefix/program and the corresponding student learning outcomes for each—these are the system-wide “competencies” according to the Common Course Numbering System (access and search CCNS here).

If any CSLOs encompass more than one sub-skill that could or should be isolated and assessed individually, list each sub-skill outcome separately labeled with a letter. For example:

4a. Use accurate grammar mechanics, and spelling.4b. Choose diction and usage appropriate to writing purposes and audiences.

If your Discipline Prefix/Program has any established CSLOs in addition to these state-wide core learning outcomes in order to reflect other values specific to PCC and your program’s goals for your students, include them in the list, marked with an asterisk*

Select at least 2 of the CSLOs from this list to assess during the 2017 calendar year and fill out the tables on the following pages for each.
