TIMELINE

▶ CHOICE SHEET DISTRIBUTED Thursday, January 24th THROUGH SCIENCE

▶ DUE BACK TO YOUR SCIENCE TEACHER NO LATER THAN Thursday, January 31st

▶ Write your history teacher’s name & period at the top of your choice sheet

▶ (LATE AFTER FRIDAY YOU MAY NOT GET FIRST CHOICE OF ELECTIVES)

MOVING?

➢ IF YOU MAY BE MOVING:

• Still fill out a choice sheet-write the name of school or city you are moving to at top corner of choice sheet

• Plans may change & we want to make sure we have your selections in our system in case they do so that you potentially get the classes you want/need

ABSENT?

▶ Students can pick up choice sheet from counseling office when they return

PRE-REGISTRATION▶ Courses generated by demand, so changes

are not always possible. Really think about what you want to take next year.

▶ No schedule change requests will be taken after June 6th

▶ Contract signed by student/parent stating these are your choices.

▶ We do our best to schedule you in your top choices, required classes are scheduled first.

Pre-AP ELAR Block• Pre-AP English/Pre-AP Reading BLOCK is a challenging,

fast-paced course • Student success in this class can be attributed to time

management skills, organizational skills & good study habits

• It is strongly recommended that you consult with your English & reading teacher before registering for this course.

• You should have met passing standard on STAAR reading if registering for this course.

Algebra I

▶ Algebra I Pre-AP and Algebra I GT (you MUST have taken 7th grade Pre-AP math)

▶ All Algebra I students must take the STAAR End of Course (EOC) Exam

▶ Will receive 1.0 HS math credit upon successful completion

Pre-AP Science & Pre-AP US History

▶ 8th grade students may take Pre-AP Science and Pre-AP US History

▶ These courses are more rigorous and fast-paced.

▶ Consult with your current teacher or counselor regarding placement into these Pre-AP classes for next year

Electives▶ 8 period day

▶ Choose 5 electives and rate them 1-5 in order of preference (if you are choosing semester electives you must pick at least 2)

Theatre Arts II (fine art credit)▶ This course is for the student is

learning the fundamentals of theatre arts

▶ This course counts as a fine art ▶ This is a semester or year long

course▶ Can only take this year long

course if you have already taken a semester of theatre.

Theatre Arts III(fine art credit)

▶ Theatre Arts II is required to participate in Theatre Arts III in 8th grade

▶ This is a year long course

▶ This course counts as a fine art (1.0)

Art I (fine art credit)

▶ Art I is a year long course designed for the student to learn the fundamentals of art.

▶ This course is available to 7th & 8th grade students. There is a separate course for 6th grade students.

▶ This course counts as a fine art (1.0 credit)

➢ Art II is a year long fine art course (1.0)

➢ This course is available to 7th & 8th grade students

➢ Pre-requisite is Art I

➢ Students develop advanced art skills in the Art II course

Art II(fine art credit)

• Art III is a year long fine art course (1.0 credit)

• This course is available to 8th grade students only

• Pre-requisite is Art I and Art II• Students taking the Art III

course have a passion for art & have advanced art skills

Art III(fine art credit)

Debate(Does not count as a fine art credit)

▶ Excellent reading and writing skills highly recommended

▶ This course does not count as a fine art

New Electives Coming 2019-2020!!!

● Creative Writing: Students will study and practice communication skills, literary devices, figurative language, and plot/character development. Students will write essays, letters, advertisements, short stories and poetry. The writing process will be stressed.

● Journalism: Intro to journalism. Students will work in the areas of interviewing, news & feature writing & proofreading. Includes studies in history of the American mass print media, journalistic law & ethics, journalistic writing, purposes & characteristics of newspaper pages.

● Creative Media: Student will study and practice communication skills, literary devices, figurative language & plot.character development. Students will write poetry, short stories, essays, letters and advertisements. Students will integrate their writing and photographs with technology. Students’ work may be featured on the school-based website and entered in local & national competitions.

in on time!

• Grades, attendance & discipline considered in selection process

Robotics (College Career Readiness)

▶ Year-long elective

▶ Does not count as high-school credit

▶ Commitment to before/after-school practices & competitions

▶ Must get teacher signature/authorization for class

PALS

▶ Application comes later in the year (April/May)▶ Sign up for another elective now (indicate on

choice sheet & sign-up sheet if interested in class)

▶ PALS is a year long course (takes the place of a chosen elective)▶ See Mr Rosique or Mrs Sandoval for more info

Athletics/PE▶ Before/After school participation REQUIRED!

▶ Open to all 7th graders with PASSING GRADES!

▶ Coach’s signature REQUIRED & contract signature required

▶ The athletic class is a year long elective (counts as PE credit-must have at least 4 semesters of PE)

▶ It is intended for students who want to participate in at least 2 Bush sports (Boys-Football, Basketball, Track, Soccer, Tennis or Golf ; Girls-Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Soccer, Tennis and/or Golf)

High School Credit Courses
