COVID-19 Self-Screening Morning Checklist updated 9/14/2020

Your child MUST stay home if they have a least one symptom from this list:

• Fever (temperature 100.4°F or higher) no fever-reducing medications on board

• New cough, or a cough gets worse

• Difficulty or trouble breathing

• New loss of taste or smell

Your child MUST stay home if they have at least two symptoms from this list, even if no symptoms

from the first list above are present:

• Sore Throat

• Nausea/vomiting, diarrhea

• Chills

• Muscle pain

• Excessive fatigue

• New or severe headache

• New nasal congestion or runny nose

• Has your child, or anyone you have been in close contact with, been diagnosed with COVID-19,

AND/OR been placed on quarantine for possible contact with COVID-19? If you reply YES to any of the questions in the checklist, stay home, follow the school procedures for

calling in your sick child, and contact your healthcare provider.

When to Return to School after COVID-19

Saint Joseph School will follow the CDC’s guidelines for returning to school following COVID-19:

*Scenario #1: If a student has or likely has COVID-19 and is showing symptoms, they should not return to

school until:

• 24 hours with no fever and

• Respiratory symptoms have improved (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) and

• 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

*Scenario #2: If a student tested positive for COVID-19 but is NOT showing symptoms, they may not

return to school until:

• 10 days have passed since positive test

*Scenario #3: If a student starts showing symptoms after receiving a positive test result, they should then

follow the guidelines for Scenario #1

*Scenario #4: If a student has been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 (within 6 feet of him/

her for at least 15 minutes, had direct physical contact, shared eating or drinking utensils with, or came

into contact with respiratory droplets) the student should stay home for 14 days after exposure and will

be directed to contact their child’s primary healthcare provider.

COVID-19 Attendance Guide for Parents and Families is a resource from the Minnesota Department of Health. Use this guide to understand when your child can attend school

during this pandemic.

Each school day, with few exceptions, we need volunteers to help monitor recess on the playground. In this role, volunteers (family members of students K - 8) assist school staff with supervision and help to maintain a safe environment for the

school children to play. Students love it when family members come in and show interest in their school day! Please see the Sign-Up Genius site to volunteer!

ISD #196 Transportation will not be issuing any bus passes for the 2020-2021 school year. This will allow them to keep the numbers in

check when transporting the regular riders on the bus. Families will have to make

transportation arrangements if their student will be going home with another student for after

school activities.

Need to contact a staff member? Check

out the staff directory on the website!

Parent—Teacher conferences on November 2, 3

and 4 will be done virtually! St.

Joseph School will be using Calendly

to schedule conferences.

Information can be found on the school website.

The St. Joseph School Advisory Committee

has decided that there will be NO SCHOOL

the day before Thanksgiving,

November 25, 2020. There will be no ESC or preschool on this

day.

St. Joseph School has a private Shutterfly site that we upload pictures to. Please look here for pictures taken at school events. This is a member

only site for families of St. Joseph School only, you will have to request access. Photos posted here are for personal use and memories only.

WINTER IS HERE!!! Now that the weather is turning colder, here are a few things to

keep in mind: • St. Joseph School does not have extra coats, snow pants,

mittens, or boots to lend out. Please send your student with the proper cold weather gear EVERY DAY! Recess will be held

outside each day, with some allowances made for extreme cold.

• Please note that if Independent School District 196 (Rosemount—Apple Valley— Eagan) is closed on Monday,

Tuesday, Thursday or Friday or has a delayed start, St. Joseph School is closed or has a delayed start! There will not be supervision at the school during these snow emergencies, so please plan adequately! The school will email and text all

families with delayed start or closing information.

• St. Joseph School will notify families if there is a cancellation on Wednesdays (due to no school in ISD #196).

Families will be notified via email and text.

Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6 are offered as ESC days. We must have at least five students signed up in order to offer

care, so don’t wait! Students will be offered a variety of craft opportunities as well as engaging activities centered around the school theme. Non-school day childcare is offered from 8:00a-

5:00pm at the cost of $30 per day, students must bring a cold lunch. Please reach out to Shannon Carroll to reserve a spot by October

30. Thank you!

Sunday Readings and Backgrounds

Solemnity of All Saints Reading I : Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14 We are made clean in Christ's death and resurrection.

• The first reading from the book of Revelation speaks of the ones who have become the saints.

• It gives a great vision, meant symbolically, of what Heaven is like when the angels and saints gather at God’s throne.

Reading II : 1 John 3:1-3 We are God's children.

• John reminds us that we are God’s children, in a unique and special way.

• And yet, even though we are already children of God, we look forward to what is still to come.

• John describes that time as light, when we shall all see God. Gospel : Matthew 5:1-12 The Beatitudes

• Here Jesus describes the life of a saint as one filled with blessings.

• But the blessings are not necessarily what the world would consider good.

• Saints are those whom God has chosen and blessed with his gifts.

Activities of the Week Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

• Show your faith to others. As a family, plan to help at a shelter or a food kitchen, or plan a similar project. In doing this, remind everyone that this is how truly holy people reach out to God’s family.

• As members of the Church we are called to live the faith we profess. Live your faith today through a kind word, an offer of help, a smile, or a hug.

• Together as a family, make a button proclaiming your faith. Each day have a different member of the family wear the button as a reminder for all of us to be sincere in our actions.

• Sometimes our religious observance can deteriorate into “going through the motions,” with no real love motivating them. As a family, discuss the call to follow Christ in sincerity.
