ICD=9=CM CPT CODING WORKSHOPS

Tuesday, September 28 Wednesday, September 29 9:00 am - 5:OO pm CPT Coding Workshops Gary M.Knuus,MBA Burr Ridge, IL Tickets: $225 non-refundable (includes luncheon) (Limited to AAOMS members and their staff)

The Special Committee on Coding and Nomenclature will sponsor two one-day coding workshops in Orlando to extend this instructional opportunity to AAOMS members and their office staff. These intensive one-day workshops focus on the information and techniques that the OMS practice needs to better understand the 1993 changes to the Physicians’ Current Procedural Terminology (CPT-4) codes for submitting special procedures for third party claim reimbursement. You will learn how to effectively communicate with insurance carriers by structuring your coding and support documentation to increase the likelihood of full and proper payment. Coding will be covered in depth and integrated with carrier issues.

These workshops will prepare the membership for the latest, drastic changes occurring in coding for the reporting of evaluation and management services (i.e., visits and consultations). The 1993 AAOMS Coding Sessions direct particular attention to OMS specialty-specific examples validated by HCFA and the American Medical Association to assist OMS practices in appropriately applying the descriptors to common practice situations under the ‘93 guidelines. Understanding these examples and acquiring a thorough working knowledge of these changes are crucial in assuring appropriate payment under the new RRRVS.

Other subjects covered in the one-day workshop are as follows: what is considered part of the surgical package, 1993 code changes for the reporting of fractures, reporting unlisted procedures, multiple surgeries, concurrent care, reduced audit liability, how carriers work, KISS letters for OMS, and various aspects of proper coding. Medicare Regulations, including limiting fees, elective surgery, “MUDS” (medically unnecessary denials), clinical diagnostic laboratory testing, Medicare vs. non-Medicare charges and Medicare appeals are also included as part of this presentation.

The two one-day workshops will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 28 and 29, from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. The sessions will include a methodical explanation of the principles and conventions of the CPT system and its significance in the reimbursement network, as well as coding fictitious OMS clinical situation vignettes. Members of the AAOMS Special Committee on Coding and Nomenclature and staff will answer questions and offer guidance, but they cannot specifically address attendees’ disputes with local carriers.

Attendance is by preregistration only on a space-available basis. No one will be allowed to purchase tickets on-site and reservations will not be resold if registrants fail to attend. Classes are limited, so please register early.
