DH Review and the Joint Programme of Action –Dec 2012

Based partly on our LD review the DH review highlighted Widespread failure to design, commission and provide services

which give people the support they need close to home Hospitals are not where people should live

The joint programme of action Many actions for commissioners in reviewing individual needs and

planning and commissioning services Initiatives from government, providers and professional bodies to

improve the experiences of people with learning disability and challenging behaviour.

CQC ‘s Role in the Joint Programme Some key points

• Tough enforcement of standards of quality and safety (including staff suitability).

• The “model of care” is part of the inspection and registration of relevant services.

• Revised “guidance on compliance” due in 2013 and linked to revised regulations

• Chief Exec will continue the stakeholder group created for our LD review and use it to shape our work.

• Mental Health Act Commissioners will continue to visit the most vulnerable and work to protect their rights.

• Sharing information.• (Also we have followed through in detail the

recommendations of the Serious Case review).
