Dear Parents/Carers,

What are Reading Journals?

Reading journals encourage children to read more regularly and deeply. They helpchildren to become more aware of the reading and writing process and also heighten

children's awareness and understanding of text. Reading journals provide childrenwith regular opportunities to discuss books as well as inspiring them to read novelsrecommended by other children. This can have the effect of raising the profile of books within a class by encouraging children, particularly boys, to read more widely.

What is my child expected to do?

Your child is expected to complete any two pages weekly. They are allowed to choose

which pages they wish to do, but it must be completed in conjunction with theirweekly reading book.

What will the teacher do?

The journals will be collected in by the class teacher every Monday, who will respond to the work completed.

What can I do to help?

Please feel free to give your child support, if needed, with any activities within thebook. If your child is having difficulty with the Reading Journal, please speak to theclass teacher, who may be able to give suggestions on how you may help your child.
