REGISTRATION & ENROLLMENT INFORMATIONCurrently Enrolled Creighton StudentsStudents enrolled in Creighton University for the 2014 Spring Semester who wish to register for the Summer Sessions may do so by consulting their academic adviser. Currently enrolled students may begin registering for both Fall and Summer courses on-line during the registration period in April.
Former Creighton and Visiting StudentsStudents who are not currently enrolled in Creighton University for the 2014 Spring Semester may register for the Summer Sessions by mail, fax, in person, or over the phone. Simply complete the Registration Form insert included in this Bulletin and return it by mail to the Summer Sessions Office.
After your registration has been processed, you will be considered completely registered and liable for all tuition and fees. If you subsequently decide not to attend, you must notify the Registrar’s Office in writing in order to avoid tuition charges and possible failing grades.
Late RegistrationAny registration completed after the regular day specified for registration (see Page 2) is a late registration.
Division of EnrollmentDuring the Summer Sessions a student will be registered in one of the following divisions depending on the courses or program of study for which he/she is authorized: College of Arts and Sciences, Heider College of Business, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, College of Professional Studies or Graduate School.
Course LoadsStudents may register in one, two, or three of the basic components of the Summer Sessions: Pre/May Sessions (3 or 4 week), Term 1 (3, 4 or 5 week) and Term 2 (3, 4 or 5 week. The student may earn three semester hours in the Pre/May Sessions and up to six semester hours of graduate or undergraduate credit in each of the two five-week terms (seven semester hours if a laboratory course is taken). Graduate Business students may register for six credit hours during each of the two special sessions (Term 1B and Term 2B) designed for their programs. No one may earn more than three semester hours of credit in any two-week period.
Changes in RegistrationChanges in registration must be approved by the student’s Dean. The deadlines for changing from credit to audit or to apply for pass/no pass status are on pages 2-5.
WithdrawalWithdrawal from a course must be for suffi cient cause and be made with the approval of the student’s Dean.
Students leaving the University before the completion of a term must notify their Dean of their withdrawal in person or in writing at the time of the with draw al. Refunds are made on the basis of the date of notifi cation. Any student who withdraws from school without giving advance and explicit notice to the Dean of the division in which he or she is enrolled will receive grades of WF in all courses (failure for unauthorized withdrawal).
The last day for withdrawing with a “W” from any graduate course, for any reason other than health, is the date of the fourth meeting of the class.
Auditing a ClassStudents will be permitted to register as auditors with the authorization of the Dean. Not all courses are open to au di tors. Auditors are not held re spon si ble for the work expected of regular students, are not admitted to ex am i na tions, and receive no grade or credit for the course. Regular attendance at class is expected and auditors are subject to being dropped from the course for excessive absences (in this event auditors receive a W).
A student who has previously enrolled as an auditor may not take the course for credit during any succeeding semester or summer term except by special per mis sion of the Dean.
Tuition for courses audited are reduced from the Spring 2014 per-credit hour tuition rate. See the Summer Sessions tuition schedule on Page 4. Special courses, work shops, and institutes offered at a special fl at-tuition charge are ex clud ed from the auditor discount.
Students seeking to change from credit to audit status will be eligible for a tuition adjustment (if not otherwise applicable) only if the change is made with the Dean’s approval within the period for late reg is tra tion.
Att endanceCreighton University’s primary ob li ga tion is the total education of its students. Implicit in the achievement of this goal will be the student’s con sci en tious attendance of classes and laboratory sessions. Any exception to this norm will be made by the individual instructor for his or her own well-considered reasons.
Each teacher in the undergraduate colleges will, at the start of the term, announce his or her procedures con cern ing class attendance, verifi cation of excused absences, etc. It is the student’s re spon si bil i ty to note these procedures and to follow them carefully.
Offi cially excused absences for Uni ver si ty-sponsored affairs must be cleared with the student’s Dean by the re spon si ble faculty member.

INDEPENDENT STUDY(ISP)Creighton students are eligible to register for correspondence courses in Creighton’s Independent Study Program. These are undergraduate courses that the student can complete at home. Correspondence with the instructor is key to receiving the personalized instruction that is ordinarily given in the traditional classroom. All ISP courses are developed by Creighton faculty and maintain the same high degree of instructional quality that is maintained in the on-campus courses. They are noted by the “”IS”” section letters.
Tuition is $963 per course, with the exception of Nursing 223 (2 credits), which is $642. Textbooks and supplementary
materials are additional. Students may register for ISP courses at any time. Do not include these courses on registration
forms for Summer 2014. Call the Independent Study Program Office (280-2424) for more information or to register.
For more information visit creighton.edu/isp.
2015 TRAVEL CLASSES(FLPA)The following summer Faculty-Led Programs Abroad (FLPA) through the College of Arts and Sciences will be offered in 2015 with approximate dates listed. REGISTRATION BEGINS IN AUGUST 2014.
Discovering Peru: Language, Society and Church in Context (6 weeks, May-June 2015) SOC 102, THL 342, SPN 200 or 400 (9 credits)This program is designed to give students an in-depth and first-hand introduction to the dramatic ways that Church and society interact in Peru as they struggle to find a way out of dehumanizing poverty. The premise of the program is that Peru provides a unique opportunity for understanding a language, a society and a church in context. Thus, while the program is based in the Theology Department, it will engage and require reflection from a number of disciplines in order to read the reality of the country. The program will begin with a general introduction to social, economic, political, and ecclesial challenges within Peru. The program will be interdisciplinary and experientially grounded and will require significant student initiative.
Contact Thomas M. Kelly, Ph.D. [email protected] for more information.Department of Theology
West Virginia - Poverty in America (3 weeks, May 2015) SRP 470 (3 credits)Students in this class will travel to West Virginia and live with a community that serves those of the area in various forms of outreach. There will be opportunities for assisting in home repair, tutoring children, gathering and cooking for community night, visiting elderly and/or homebound…and coming to know the particular strengths and perspectives of those who deal with poverty day to day, all their lives.
