STAGE 3 – PARLIAMENT HOUSE VISIT

Last Tuesday, students in 5/6L and 5/6M visited NSW Parliament House, Australia's oldest parliament, via video conference. The Serjeant-at-arms and Usher of the Black Rod took them on a tour of the House. They saw the historic Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Chambers. They discovered how laws are made and how Parliament works. It was a fun and interactive program where students practised carrying a ceremonial mace and lunged like a lion salient. They also learnt about the Westminster system and how democracy developed in Australia.

CHPS GV TERM 2 WEEK 10

NSW PREMIERS SPORTING CHALLENGE

This year our school has again registered to participate in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge. Crescent Head Public School has participated in this Challenge since 2012.

The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport and physical activity to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Over the ten week period of Term Three, all Crescent Head Public School classes will be monitoring physical activity levels during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport lessons. Physical activity outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award for the Primary classes. The aim is to work towards an average of at least 60 minutes of activity a day for the ten weeks.

Our school will be working towards a class-based award in the Infants classes and an individual student award in the Primary classes at the conclusion of the Challenge. Each student in years 3-6 will be issued with a logbook to record their daily physical activity. K-2 students will work towards a Gold class award level.

We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together.

Students completing the Challenge will receive a personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze), signed by the Premier of New South Wales.

Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience.

CHANGES BEGINNING TERM 3

Next term restrictions on school operations are easing with others currently being reviewed. The following activities will be able to commence at the beginning of Term 3:

• All school sport. • Inter-school competitions such as Public

Speaking and Performing Arts. • Visiting shows such as Musica-Viva. • Scripture and Ethics programs. • P & C Meetings (with social distancing). • Essential parent / teacher meetings. • Practicum teachers.

Still under consideration are school camps and excursions, parent attendance at assemblies, parent volunteer programs and school based activities that involve large numbers of people. Due to time constraints we will not be making attempts to catch up events that were scheduled for earlier in the year but look forward to filling our calendar with more exciting opportunities as more options become available.

The P&C has endorsed contribution amount at: • $49 per student • $120 for 3 students or more

This school contribution can be made at the school office at any time and will greatly assist the school in off-setting the cost of providing equitable new and quality resources and materials for all students in our school.
