Jack, the Scottie DogNote: Mark the beginning of every even numbered row. This pattern can be a little confusing to work; if possible, have someone read each step to you as you focus on the work. It is also helpful to place a piece of white fabric in your lap when working with black thread, to make the stitches easier to see.

For Legs, join with sl st in end of Row 1 opposite tail, *ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, 2 hdc in next ch, sl st in end of next row, ch 6, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each of next 3 chs*; sc in end of next 2 rows, (ch 1, sc in end of next 2 rows) 4 times, repeat between **; (sc, sl st) in end of next row (Row 14). Jack's Collar and LeashFor collar, with red, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining ch across. Fasten off. (6 sc made)For leash, join black with sl st in one end of Collar, ch 45, do not fasten off; trim end of thread leaving a 12” end. (It may be necessary to make the chain either longer or shorter, depending on your gauge. Check the length of the chain on the finished doily and add or remove chains as needed to achieve the desired length.)

Finishing and AssemblyNote: When gluing items, it is helpful to place a drop of glue on the tip of a toothpick; use the toothpick to precisely apply glue to desired spot.

1: Place Garden Path Background on blocking surface. Shape into a circle; spray with heavy starch, allow to dry. Glue ends of Garden Path Background together, pinning in place if needed. Allow to dry.

2: Glue Hand to end of Sleeve. Roll Rose petals to form Roses. Glue bottom of petals to hold in place. Allow to dry. Glue one set of Leaves to each Rose. Allow all to dry thoroughly.

3: Glue 16 Roses and Leaves evenly spaced around Garden Path Background. Allow to dry.

4: Glue Hair to Head. Allow to dry. Place Hat on Hair and Head; glue in place and allow to dry. Glue remaining Rose and Leaves to Hat. Allow to dry.

5: Glue assembled Head, Hair and Hat to Bodice. Allow to dry. Glue Bodice to Skirt. Spray assembled Head, Bodice and Skirt with heavy starch; shape and allow to dry.

6: Place Lucy on Garden Path Background, slightly off-center as shown in photo. Place Sleeve on Bodice. Place Jack on Garden Path Background as shown in photo. Spray all with starch, shape and allow to dry.

7: Glue Sleeve to Bodice, and Lucy and Jack to Garden Path Background. Allow to dry.

8: Glue Collar to Jack. Measure Leash from Collar to Hand, adjusting by adding or removing chains if needed. Fasten off and trim excess thread from Leash. Glue end of Leash to back of Hand. Allow to dry.

9: Spray assembled doily with starch. Allow to dry.

10: Fold 12” piece of sheer black ribbon in half. Glue folded end of ribbon to Hat as shown in photo. Trim ends of ribbon. Glue bead to Jack for eye. Allow all to dry.
