A mission...

• To encourage teaching and playing chess in state schools and inner city communities.

• To organise and promote world class chess events as a catalyst for mass participation.

• To raise the profile of chess and highlight its educational and social benefits.

Why chess?

The oldest and most enduring of board games, chess is art, science and sport. It is a truly global game played by an estimated 500 million people in 175 countries. Thegoverning body of world chess, Federation Internationale d’Echecs (FIDE), has over 170 member federations, a number second only to FIFA.

Chess is universal, with no barriers of age, gender, race, physical disability or language. And with a glorious history going back 1300 years, the game is making immense strides in the modern age of technology with millions of games played online every day (a move is just four bytes of data).

The contest over 64 squares is a positive and creative experience in which children learn and have fun at the same time. Chess is cheap, the CSC program costs just £50 per pupil per year to run.
