PT3 to replace PMR

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Penilaian

Menengah Rendah (PMR) would be replaced

with Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3).

there would no longer be any centralised

examinationfor Form 3 students implemented at

the school level.

performance assessment at the end of the year.

PT3 for the subjects Bahasa Melayu and English

Language would be implemented by using

written testand

oral testassessment instrument.

The Science, Mathematics, Islamic Education,

Living Skills, Arabic, Chinese, Tamil, Iban andKadazandusun language subjects will use the

written test assessment instruments only.

History and Geography would be assessed via

assignments, practical tests, projects, field study andcase studies.

The written tests would be held in October while

History and Geography would be assessedthroughout the year.

Schools would administer, assess and score the

assessments based on standardised guidelines

prepared by the Education MinistrysExaminations Syndicate

The Examinations Syndicate will prepare

questions with different levels of difficulty andplace them in a question bank.

Schools can then choose these questions and use

them.

Students also need to sit for Psychometric Tests

for application into Form Four. Psychometric tests would ensure students are

placed according to their interests and capability.

Issues with SBA

Large classes make it difficult to achieve the

aims of SBA which is

to ensure that teachers pay extra attention

to students so they understand what is being

taught and that weak students don't get left

behind.

Each class is one hour long. Teachers are

supposed to spend 30 minutes presenting thelesson.

The other half is to ensure students understand

what was taught. This includes assessingthem.

minutes assessing each student to ensure he

understands.

with 40 students, teachers are scrambling to fill in

their DSPs. This is where weak students get left

behind.

nature of the SBA the emphasis is not ongetting as many straight As as possible.
