I. Ethnographic Fieldwork
19921999 Conducting ethnographic fieldwork on the use of plantbased
medicinals by contemporary populations of Hawai`i. Structured
and unstructured interviews and participant observation in both
community and clinical settings yielded the data for multiple
publications on medicinal plant and food use in Hawaii as part of
an NSF project (19931996), as well as part of dissertation
fieldwork.
19921999 Participant observation, structured/unstructured interviews of
multilevel marketers of dietary supplements as well as text
analysis of interviews and advertising materials related to those
products. Dissertation research.
II. Specialized Criminal Defense Investigation
2005present As criminal defense investigator for capital postconviction appeals,
Locate and interview lay witnesses in the investigation and preparation of mitigation evidence and subsequent appellate proceedings. Evaluate and document material and testimonial evidence, coordinate with expert witnesses, and assist attorneys in appellate proceedings.

COURSES TAUGHT/ PREPARED TO TEACH
In addition to the above anthropology courses, I have 5 years’ experience in designing and
teach a Freshman seminar class in the liberal arts (Western Heritage in Global Context). Course
includes a yearlong interdisciplinary curriculum focused on the foundations of Western history,
art, philosophy and science, with emphasis on development and assessment of critical thinking,
public speaking and collegelevel research and composition skills). My particular focus was with
international students.
