Tung’s Acupuncture, Its Regular Channels & Unique Points

1973 text book by Master Tung

1972 draft by Master Tung

1968 note By Master Tung

Tung's Acupuncture (English edition)

English translated by Dechen Paldan (Dr. Palden Carson) September 1973, first edition.

董 景 昌Wade–Giles system: Tung, Ching-ChangHanyu Pinyin system: Dong, Jingchangnow most common: Tung, Ching-Chang.

Chinese Tung Acupuncture Institute

Master Tung accepted first disciple in July 1, 1962He then founded the Chinese Tung Acupuncture Institute in his Clinic.Dr. Wei-Chieh Young, Dr. Carson Palden and I became Master Tung's formal disciples in November 1973.

Dr. Wei-Chieh Young’s Contribution

According to 1973 textbook only.

Dr. Young is the first direct disciple to systemize the Tung's Acupuncture by Zang Fu Bie Tong theory.

Zang Fu Bie Tong theory is derived from LEE Chan‘s “Yi Xue Ru Men” (The Entrance of Medical Science) (1575) and TANG Rongchuan's "Yi Jing Jing Yi" (The Essence of Medical Classics) (1884).

It is one excellent theory to explain Tung's Acupuncture and Traditional Acupuncture.

Master Tung's Words About His Family Acupuncture System

The channel system is different from 14 channels system. The location of Tung’s points are different from the 365 points of traditional acupuncture. It focuses on the acupuncture more than the moxibustion. The technique of Tung’s acupuncture is very simple and very effective. A lot of difficult diseases were cured very quickly by my family’s system of acupuncture. Tung’s family acupuncture has its own origin, and has its own traditions.

Tung, Ching-Chang. (1973) Tung's Acupuncture, Its Regular Channels & Unique Points.(textbook). Taipei, Hsin Ya Publishing Co. Preface.

How Master Tung Re-builtTung's Acupuncture

It is very sad that the original Tung’s Acupuncture textbooks were destroyed during war in my ancestor’s era.

Fortunately, I have memorized the secret key in rhymes that were passed down in my family by oral tradition.

After more than three hundred thousand clinical cases, the effectiveness of Tung’s Acupuncture is confirmed completely.

Tung (1973) Preface.

Master Tung’s Regular Channels & Unique Points

At first I did not realize the difference between Tung's regular channels/unique points and the traditional 14 channels/points.

In 1995, when I compared Du Mai and Urinary Bladder Channel with Chiropractic Spine Theory, I suddenly found that the dorsal trunk chart in Tung's Acupuncture textbook (1973) hid an unbelievable picture – The River Map and Luo Book.

Points on the Back Compared to theLuo Chart/River Map

Five Zang Channel System

This finding shocked me, then I wondered: Is Tung's Acupuncture a Five Zang Channel System?

This doubt was not solved until 2008, I came back to Taiwan to visit my senior fellow apprentice, Mr. Yuan Guo-Ben.

He gave me two old writings:1. Tung's Acupuncture, Its Regular Channels & Unique

Points note (1968) 2. Ching-Chang Points & Medical Cases note(1964)

Five Zang Nerves = Five Zang Channels

Tung’s Regular Channels belong to Five ZangChannel system. But he used modern anatomy term to present his 5 Zang system.Heart nerve to present Heart channel, and so on. Each point has its own five zang channel or channels to connect to the five zang. Also each area contains it's own five zang channel system that directly to connect to the five zang. Five zang channel system includes 5 zang, 6 fu and

6 extraordinary fu.

Meaning of Reaction Areas

In 1968 note, Master Tung states, “I made use of modern language to write this book to advocate the quintessence of Chinese culture and treat more severe and lingering illnesses.”This is the reason Master Tung used the term “nerve” to relate information regarding the five zang channel system in the anatomy section of his 1973 textbook and 1968 note. Although he did also incorporate actual western anatomical terminology such as muscle, nerve, and bone; these designations can only be found up to the Area 55 points. After Area 55, he almost exclusively used five zang nerve designations and not actual western anatomy.

Ching-Chang's Points & Medical Cases

Dr. Chen Du-Ren is one of thethe direct disciple (1964) of Master Tung.same age as Master Tung.Very famous TCM doctor before to be Master Tung's disciple.Printing "Ching-Chang Points& medial cases" note by Mimeograph machine around

1964-65. Mr. Yuan Gou-Ben kept it private for 44 years. He handed this old document to me when I asked him five zang question in May 2008.

Kidney Qi → Heaven Water→ Ren Mai & Chong Mai → Uterus

“In a female, her Kidney qi (shen qi 腎氣) becomes prosperous and her teeth begin to change at the age of one seven (7).(Female) at the age of two sevens (14), the Heaven water (tiangui天癸) arrives, Ren mai and Chong mai are vigorous in function. Then she begins to have menstruation and is able to conceive a baby. (Male) at age of two eights (16), as kidney qi is abundant andheaven water occurs, he begins to experience spermatic emission. If he has copulated with a woman at this period, he can have a baby. [(gui) 癸:10th heaven stem. Yin Water. ]

2005. Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine Plain Conversation (Chinese-English). Xi'an China, Xi'an World Publishing Corp. Chap. 1 Ancient Ideas on how to Preserve Natural Healthy

Energy. p.7

Kidney Qi → Heaven Water→ Ren Mai & Chong Mai

(Female) at age of seven sevens(49), as both the Ren mai and Chong mai become deficient and menstruation stops, she becomes physically feeble and is no longer able to conceive a baby.

(Male) at age of seven eights(56), as Liver qi (gan qi 肝氣)declines, his sinews becomes inflexible.

(Male) at age of eight eights (64) with the exhaustion of Heaven water and reduce of Kidney qi, his kidney is weakened and his body becomes very weak, his teeth and hair begin to lose.....unable to have a baby.

Plain Conversation (Suwen) 2005, Chap. 1. p. 7-9.

Kidney Qi → Heaven Water→ Ren Mai & Chong Mai

Huangdi asked, "some very old people still can bear children. What is the reason?"

Qibo answered, " This life-span exceeds, their qi and blood are always smooth in circulation and their Kidney qi is in excess. These still can bear children, (they loss such an ability at the age of ) 64 in male and 49 in female.

Plain Conversation (Suwen) 2005, Chap. 1. p. 9

Kidney Qi (Shen Qi 腎氣)

The kidney controls water, it receives and stores essence from Five Zang and Six Fu. Thus only when Five Zang and Six Fu are vigorous can [the kidney have enough essence] to discharge. When Five Zang have declined, the bone becomes weak and Heaven water is exhausted. The hair turns white and the body becomes clumsy. [As a result] walks with difficulty and is unable to have a baby. Plain Conversation (Suwen) 2005, Chap. 1. p.9

Kidney qi engendered by kidney essence. It indicates activity function of kidney. The major function of kidney: Maintenance of endocrine and blood pressure; Making hemachrome; Electrolyte balance; Excretion. If the function of kidney is diminished which will cause liver metabolism disturbance. (Yun Zi-Yu. 1988. Nei Jing Su Wen Zhen Xiang zhi Tan Tao 《內經素問真相之探討》p.16)

All human being (male and female) life is dominated by endocrine. It is Kidney qi. (Yun, p.4)

Heaven Water (Tian Gui 天癸)

Heaven water (tian gui) is a product (material or functional) of the "exuberant kidney qi". Kidney qi is the endocrine system. Heaven water (tian gui) is the reproductive hormone.

Liver Regulates the Blood inChong Mai and Ren Mai

Liver storing blood. Wang Bing, "Liver dominates the sea of blood" . Blood is very important to female. Period will consume blood and pregancy needs blood to nourish fetus. So, the female‘s qi is enough but the blood tends toward deficiency. Chong Mai is the sea of blood, Ren Mai dominates the uterus.Liver dominates the blood in Chong Mai and Ren Mai. (Gao Bing Jung: Yi Xue Zhen Chuan《醫學真傳》).

Liver can regulate the physiology function (e.g. period and pregancy) of Chong Mai and Ren Mai.

At the end of the last day, an old lady came to the gate with her friend's supporting. Then she lay on the ground. She could not walk or talk.

Her friend told me she had severe lower abdominal pain. I immediately checked her feet and found both Door Metal (66.05) had blue vein, so I pressed these 2 points firstly, and asked my assistant to bring three edge needle to me, prick blood out. Then she could answer questions and walked slowly by herself.

She told she had had chronic The uterus adhesion syndrome but no medications. Dr. Xu gave her pain killer and asked her to accept surgery as early as possible.
