The ResidenceThe ResidenceThe ResidenceThe Residence The award winning architect hasdesigned a unique house built to recognise thelocal context and architectural tradition, whileproviding light and attractive living space ideal forboth everyday living and larger scale entertaining.Built in 2002 and drawing upon the skills of localcraftsmen, Cynefin is constructed of local stone, with a slate tile roof angled and sloped to reflectthe mountainous skyline. The house sitscomfortably into its surroundings with buttressescreating a visual link between the building and

Of particular note is Davies-Hughes'sbeautiful oak and ash staircase which smoothlywinds and twists in natural form around thecurved walls to the landing above. Sir SimonJenkins, Chairman of the National Trust, formereditor of The Times, and author on architecturehas written that Cynefin is an outstandingexample of Britishcraftsmanship in wood, on a par with the Arts andCrafts movement, and recalling the artistry ofAntoni Gaudi.
