Sunday Childcare & Preschool

Childcare volunteers are desperately needed. Please prayerfully consider whether you can offer an hour each week or month to this ministry.

Childcare: St. John's Childcare is open during the 8:45 and 10:30 am Masses. We serve children 9 months through 2 years of age. Please register and enjoy!

Sunday School: Sunday School Classes are open for registered children ages 3 through 6 years of age!

Advent Is Here and this is a wonderful time of year to bring the Lord to life in our homes through our children. One idea is to create a simple Advent Service Calendar for your family. Contact Colleen Picou for ideas if needed!

Childcare, Sunday School classes and Children's Liturgy of the Word resume today, December 3! Donation of throw pillows! Our children can make use of your unused throw pillows. These pillows will be used for safer seating in the Childcare room and prayer kneelers in Sunday School. Please contact Colleen Picou with pillow donations at [email protected]

Faith Formation Quotes from the Greats

Advent means ‘arrival’.

Who is coming?...[the Christian is waiting for] no one less than God. Not for a leader or some hero, not for better times, not for some vague utopia…but really for God. For Emmanuel. God-with-us. ~ Hans Urs Cardinal Von Balthasar

Be watchful! Be Alert!

You do not know

when the time will come…

when the Lord of the

house is coming…. May He not

come suddenly and

find you sleeping.

Happy New Church Year! This is the 1st Sunday of the New Church Year & the Gospel focuses on Jesus’ Second Coming. He warns us about “sleeping.” Stay Alert! It isn’t for us to know when the Lord will come, but we need to be “aware” that He will come and be prepared for His return by living the Gospel. We are called to live in a state of “wakefulness” as we wait in hope for the Lord’s return.

We are people on the watch for the return of our beloved Lord at every moment. This is the cause of our constant joy. It is not in fear of His Second Coming, but because we fear missing the One we long for. Pay Attention! Be Prepared! Jesus is coming!

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:30-32 Advent—traditionally known as a "little Lent"—is marked by increased fasting, good works and prayer. St. Martin de Porres is one of just two parishes in our diocese offering Eucharistic Adoration 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except during Sunday Masses). If you haven’t already, consider setting aside one hour each week before the Blessed Sacrament to prepare for the coming of our Lord at Christmas. If you already have a scheduled hour, consider adding another weekly hour. Or have a family member or friend sign up for a weekly hour. Call 657-888-4631 or email [email protected] to schedule your special hour.

It’s Flu Season We have a few reminders for our parishioners who have health concerns:

If you are sick, please stay home. It is not sinful to miss Mass under these conditions; it is an act of charity for those who are sick to stay home and not risk the health of others.

For the Lord’s Prayer, it is acceptable to extend hands upward For the Sign of Peace, share a verbal exchange or meaningful eye contact,

smile, or a bow to one another During Communion, you can receive Host only since Christ is wholly present

in both the Body and Blood of Christ.

Home Visit Ministry “Home Visitation, connecting the dots and doing God’s work.”

A Home Visitor testimonial: Saturday morning 10am. As soon as we rang the doorbell, the dogs started barking. The lady squeezed herself out the door very carefully not to let the dogs out. After introducing ourselves, I asked for her name

since the only name on our worksheet was a man's name. Well, she verified that while she is Catholic, her husband is not, but they go to church regularly at St Martin’s. She then said that her husband wants to become Catholic. How nice, we said. We then told her about the RCIA program and what he needed to do. They have 3 grown children—all baptized, but fallen away lately. They also would like to receive envelopes again, and we were able to tell her about E-Giving. It was a very useful visit where we exchanged important information. ~Mellony Shanthikumar Get involved; Contact Susan at [email protected] or Eldon at [email protected].
