Forced marches of large numbers of prisoners where many of them died

brutal deaths

Six major camps designed and built for the purpose of killing Jews

Fuhrer

German word for “leader”, that was adopted by Adolf Hitler as his title

Gas Chambers

Large rooms that were sealed off with Jews inside and then filled with

poisonous gas

Gestapo

Secret German police that were ordered to stomp out political

opposition

Ghetto

The parts or areas of a town that Jews were kept in before being sent to a

camp

Jewish councils created inside of the ghettos to keep order

A prisoner in the camp who takes a role of overseeing duties by other

prisoners

Means sunrise, or east; usually an item of value is put onto a door frame

facing east.

A Government organized attack on a group of people
