Last November, the first ever Dance Proms was a truly memorable occasion for everyone who took part, from the dancers on stage, to their friends and families cheering in the audience, to the backstage crew who helped make it all happen. More than 450 young dancers took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall and our finale brought the packed venue to their feet for a standing ovation!

Now we’re back and we want you to take part and make this year’s event even bigger and better! Registration opens on Monday 12 March 2012 and runs until Sunday 20 May, so read on for more details about Dance Proms. Your students could be performing on stage at the Royal Albert Hall on 4th November!

How Dance Proms Works

Dance Proms is a partnership project between the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Royal Albert Hall working together in celebration of dance. UK and Republic of Ireland members from the three dance organisations are invited to submit a short video at www.danceproms.co.uk featuring an original piece of choreography performed either as a solo, duet or group performance by their students in any dance genre.

A variety of acts will be selected by both an esteemed panel of professionals and through a public vote to come together to perform live at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 4 November 2012.

Who We AreThe International Dance Teachers’ Association’s (IDTA) objectives are to promote knowledge and foster the art of dance in all its forms, to consult, to maintain and improve teaching standards, to offer a comprehensive range of professional qualifications in all dance genres, and to provide and maintain syllabi and technique in all dance genres to train dancers for the profession.

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) was formed in 1904 and is today a registered educational charity. The ISTD covers the full spectrum of dance examinations on a truly global scale. ISTD dance teachers are highly experienced in teaching children and adults in a variety of dance styles ranging from Ballet to Ballroom, Street to South Asian Dance, and Latin American to Tap.

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world’s most influential education and dance teacher training organisations. A registered charity, the RAD promotes knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally, and seeks to accomplish this through promoting dance, educating and training students and teachers and providing ballet examinations to set standards and reward achievement.

The Royal Albert Hall, built to fulfil the vision of Prince Albert, has been in continuous use since it was opened in 1871 as a multipurpose building to host music concerts, dance spectaculars, exhibitions, public meetings, scientific conversations and award ceremonies. It is a registered charity held in trust for the nation and is considered as one of London’s most prestigious performing venues.
