It’s hard to believe this is our last week of school in �ovember and when we
return from break it will be December already. As I have shared previously,
when we return in December we have staff changes that will be happening. Mr.
Alkire’s family will be making their move to Texas. Mrs. Taylor will be teach-
ing 7th & 8th grade Social Studies and Ms. Entizne will be teaching the 8th grade
ELA classes. Over the past few weeks we have gone through a collaborative
process with the 6th grade students (Ms. Entizne’s class) and 6th grade teaching
team to look at the characteristics of the new 6th grade teacher. Mrs. Wooten
and I visited Ms. Entizne’s class and got feedback on what type of teacher they
would like. Our students amazed us each time they gave us a new characteristic
they wanted. I shared this information with our interview panel and the chart
still hangs in my office as a reminder every day of what we all want to see in a
teacher. I was extremely proud of our students, I could have made the list any
better. We then had first & second round interviews. The 2nd round interviews
was a model lesson in the classroom. I got feedback from the interview panel
and the students and we all agreed that Ron Kovac would make a great addi-
tion to our Hawkins team. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Kovac to our Haw-
kins team. He will begin teaching the 6th grade ELA and Math classes on De-
cember 2nd.
We would like to thank everyone for their attendance at our Parent/Teacher
conferences. I got to hear a lot from teachers about the high percentage of par-
ticipation this year. We also would like to thank you for working with us as
Jefferson School District tried something new with the format of our Parent/
Teacher conferences.
As we go into our last week of school for �ovember and head into our Thanks-
giving Break, Mrs. Wooten and I would like to take a moment and express a
few things that we are thankful for here at Hawkins:
•••• The shining smiles we see every morning as our students come onto
campus.
•••• The fun little conversations and jokes we share with our students.
•••• The focus we see in our classrooms by the teachers and students.
•••• The teachers dedication in wanting to provide the best instruction for
your students.
•••• The Hawkins community as a whole, what a great place to be.
•••• The pride and spirit we all share in being a Hawkins Husky.
We hope that all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and can take a
moment to look around and see all that you have to be thankful for.
