Hernán Luis y PradoPresident Workshops For Warriors2970 Main StreetSan Diego, CA 92113

Dear Mr. Luis y Prado,

We can make a living doing almost anything. Why not do something that matters? Answering this question is what has brought me to you. Please accept this letter and resume as my application for the Marketing Director position with the Workshops For Warriors organization. I see your organization not only as a place to utilize my creative talents but also a place where we can help create support for veterans and their families, while also building America’s infrastructure. What could be better than that?

I have over six years of professional experience in the areas of marketing, sales, project management, branding, design, event coordination, media relations, fundraising, and photography.

By nature, I generate innovative ideas. I am a visionary with a proven track record in building what I envi-sion. I’m a strategic thinker. I pay close attention to what’s going on around me. I listen. I gather informa-tion and solve complex problems. Where others see complexity, I see patterns. Communicating emotions and reading people comes effortlessly to me. I challenge people and I challenge myself. Driven by my talents, I dedicate and immerse myself in whatever I do. I have always excelled under pressure, thrive in team environments, and I’m one of the most creative people you’ll ever meet.

I took this passion and enthusiasm to my experience at The University of Arizona, where as a student I was the first appointed Executive Director of the nation’s largest student-run student section and ticketing pro-gram, the Zona Zoo. My decisions lead to record breaking sales, a boost in revenue of over $453,000 and increased Men’s Basketball attendance. I also have a history of exceeding targets and cultivating strong re-lationships as a fundraiser for the Wildcat Club, and as a salesman for the Arizona Cardinals football club.

Fresno State athletics recruited me to come in and serve as marketing, media relations, publications, pho-tography and student ticketing coordinator and to assist with large fundraising endeavors. I lead many projects, events, managed budgets and created a branding strategy to deliver a consistent look across all platforms. Most notably the Dog Pound student ticketing program. During my time the combined student revenues and fees more than doubled from $1.9M to $4.3M in two years.

Since my decision to move home to San Diego my creative professional talents have flourished. I have created a successful business as a craftsman specializing in officially licensed collegiate works of art. My experiences, talent and education has lead me to Workshops For Warriors

I eagerly look forward to discussing this opportunity through an interview or informal discussion at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your time and consideration and I hope to hear from you in the near future.

Sincerely,

David Roost

Marketing, Social Media & Public Relations Strategic Plan Coronado Brewing Company

“Products are created in the factory, but brands are created in the mind.” Marketing Relationships “Why should I buy Coronado beer?” This is the most important question we must answer. Through research, strategy and planning we will answer that question by developing a Position Strategy – this will be our guiding light in marketing. Once the position strategy has been chosen, we must take strong steps to deliver and communicate this position to our targeted consumers. It is absolutely vital that our marketing communications be organized and integrated, so we can deliver a consistent message that reflects this positioning strategy. This strategy will be reflected in how we brand our product through marketing, social media and public relations. Below is a brief outline of how that process will go.

- Segmentation opportunities o It starts with research, analysis, and data collection. o Develop profiles and bases for identifying each market segment to best view the market

structure. Thus dividing up the segments we need to market to by location, by demographic information, by psychographic and behavioral information.

- Target marketing o Identify which segments provide the biggest growth potential and which have the highest value

so we can target the segments we desire most. - Positioning for competitive advantage

o The place our product occupies in our consumers’ minds relative to our competitors. o It is necessary to identify what makes CBC differentiate itself from its competitors; this requires

thorough research, thought, and careful planning. o What differentiates CBC from the others…? What value do we offer that’s better than the rest?

How can we offer this value in a way that is difficult for our competitors to copy? - Integrated marketing communications

o Everything we do must communicate and support the ideals of our positioning strategy. This message needs to be clearly understood company-wide so we can all rally around the same ideal. From the experience our bartenders give our customers, to the way the media covers us, to the stories we tell on social media, the way we communicate with the world needs to support this ideal too.

Social Media & Public Relations Mission: - In order to support the ideals of our Positioning Strategy, we will utilize the media, and our social media

to communicate our message to the world. Social media and public relations are intertwined and need to support each other always. By doing so we build relationships with them, understand them, and offer more value to them.

This is a one page summary of a marketing plan created for Coronado Brewing Company.

There are many things that separate Fresno State Women’s Basketball from so many oth-ers. Including the tradition of winning conference championships and 5 straight NCAA tour-nament appearances. Perhaps one of the most obvious is the support our women receive from people like you. We are proud that our attendance ranks as the 2nd highest in the state of California for collegiate women’s basketball. Not only do your cheers fuel us onto victory, but it does a tremendous amount in validating what our team is trying to do for Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley.

We invite you to be a part of the Hoop Club, which directly benefits Fresno State Women’s Basketball student-athletes and the continued growth of our program. Just as your financial support is important, your time and effort are essential to our student-athlete’s success on and off the court. The Hoop Club is one of the best college women’s basketball sport clubs in the country and we are excited to see it grow even more in years to come. Again, thank you for your support of Fresno State Women’s Basketball. As always, cheer loud and proud and we will see you in the SaveMart Center.

card stunts - Zona ZooA tradition organized and created by David Roost in the Fall of 2007 for the Zona Zoo Student Section. Card Stunts are a planned, coordinated sequence of actions performed by an audience, whose members raise cards that, in the aggregate, create a recognizable image.

Originally performed at The University of Arizona Football games in the 1950’s when the tradition lost popularity and died off.

David Roost designed a system to coordinate and instruct a series of multiple card stunts, and revitalizing an old tradition.

Approximately 60,000 schedule cards were printed each year for Fresno State Athletics. The card was redesigned smaller to fit in a wallet more easily, while also integrating with the departments new consistient look. Changes

to design lead to a more readable card, larger fonts, more information, and a smaller printing cost.

The bar was raised and a new standard was set! Fresno State was a pioneer in the world of collegiate media guides by being the first school to switch from printed media guides to online virtual publications, this not only saved tens of thousands of dollars in printing costs, and is a more eco-friendly option, but by publishing them online the publications now had the option to become interactive publications, full of color and beautiful content acces-sible from anywhere in the world on any device. As publications coordinator, David Roost was responsible for the design, creation, and management of 16 large-scale virtual media guides per year. Over 1,100 pages of content was published each year. A complete design overhaul included new changes to increase consistency, maximize internal workflow efficiency, abide by all NCAA bylaws, and create the most visually striking publications in all of college athletics. In addition, the Fresno State virtual media guides are unparalleled in their commitment to gender equity and title XI across all sports with an equal attention given to men’s and women’s sports.

Pat HillPat Hill Head Coach• 14th Season

Under Hill, the program has received national attention and is recognized as a premier program. He is recognized as an elite coach, having been selected to coach in college all-star games twice in the last five years. The success stories are many, but what’s most impressive is the consistent and unwavering commitment to the principles he

established over a decade ago. The Dogs continue to play a rigorous non-conference schedule, play a tough “hard nosed” brand of football on the field, recruit Valley high school players, and set an “Academic Gameplan” that sees student-athletes through to graduation.Hill’s program has grown accustomed of being in the national spotlight. Never was it brighter than in 2001, when Hill guided the program to unprecedented heights - 11 wins, a bowl invitation, a top 10 ranking, wins over Wisconsin, Colorado and Oregon State, another record-setting attendance mark and a Sports Illustrated cover story. With nearly 70 national television appearances this decade, college football fans from around the country know about the Bulldog program.Despite these lofty achievements, Hill is still adamant this is just an indication of greater things to come. His motto of “Building a New Tradition on a National Level” is stronger now than ever, especially after winning 15 games against BCS teams since 2000 - the highest of any non-BCS teams in the country. Among those victories are four recent bowl wins against Georgia Tech (twice), UCLA and No. 18 Virginia. Hill has also taken the Bulldogs to new heights in the Western Athletic Conference. His overall league record of 73-30 is one of the best in the WAC as he is the dean of WAC football coaches. The 58-year-old Hill was the Bulldogs’ recruiting coordinator from 1984-89, a six-year period in which Fresno State was 53-16-1, averaged nearly nine wins per season, captured three league titles and won three bowl games. During that six-year stint as the recruiting coordinator and line coach under former head coach Jim Sweeney, Hill contributed at a championship level. In addition to the conference crowns and bowl victories, the Bulldogs saw 14 players drafted by NFL teams, including the likes of J.D. Williams, Ron Cox, Michael Stewart and Aaron Craver. Fresno State’s 1985 team was the only unbeaten Division I-A squad in the country, finishing the season 16th in the polls. Hill’s offensive line also provided the pass protection and run blocking for an offensive unit that averaged 32 points per game over those six seasons, including a nation-leading 41 points per game in ‘85. Success continued for Hill when he moved on to the University of Arizona as Dick Tomey’s offensive coordinator and offensive

line coach in 1990 and ‘91. In just his first season, the Wildcats went 7-5 and played in the Aloha Bowl. Both seasons, the ‘Cats finished in the top five of the Pac-10 in rushing offense, averaging nearly 200 yards per game on the ground. Four players earned

first-team All-Pac-10 honors in his two seasons, and offensive lineman John Fina was a first round NFL draft choice.

When he left Arizona, he did so to realize another career goal -- coaching in the National Football League. Hill joined the Cleveland Browns in 1992 and spent five seasons in the organization, coaching tight ends and offensive line in addition to working in the personnel department evaluating players. While there, he formed a life-lasting friendship with Bill Belichick, whom Hill credits for teaching him with a structure that has proven successful.

With great vision, an unparalleled Work ethic, and passion for the valley, pat hill’s stamp on the fresno state football program is undeniable. after 13 years, the bulldog program is nationally recognized for its success in all areas: Wins and boWl games appearances, academic achievement, and character of the young men Who’ve come through the program.

Hill would have been happy to remain in the NFL had the Fresno State job not opened a possibility for him. Hill began his coaching career as offensive line coach at Los Angeles Valley College from 1974-76, helping the Monarchs to a state junior college championship in 1975. He then served as offensive line coach at Utah from 1977-80 under Wayne Howard; was offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at UNLV from 1981-82 under Tony Knapp; and was offensive coordinator with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL in 1983 under Jack Gotta. The list of players recruited and signed by Hill at the collegiate level is impressive. Under his leadership, such greats as David Carr, Ryan Mathews, Richard Marshall, Logan Mankins, James Sanders, Alan Harper, Rodney Wright, Randall Cunningham, Tracy Rogers, Ron Cox, Aaron Craver, Marquez Pope, Lorenzo Neal, Jethro Franklin, Tony Brown, J.D. Williams, Mike Withycombe, Michael Stewart, John Fina and Tedy Bruschi all were inked to letters of intent. A 1973 graduate of UC Riverside, Hill was a three-time all-conference center, earning All-America honors as a senior. He was inducted into the UC Riverside Hall of Fame in 1989. It was at UC Riverside where he crossed paths with Ron McBride, then a UCR assistant and formerly the Utah head coach, who helped steer Hill into a football coaching career. Hill is been retained by Fresno State through the 2013 season.Hill and his wife, Cathy, have three children. Their eldest, Michael, is a recent graduate of Fresno State. Zak is a sophomore safety on the Bulldog squad and Matt, who played at Cal Poly until a career-ending injury, is a college student in southern California. Hill was born Dec. 17, 1951, in Los Angeles.

aCademiC suCCessHill kept his promise when he was hired to shore up the team’s academic woes. One of the first projects he brought to the table is well underway with positive results coming in droves. Academic Gameplan, the brainchild of John Baxter, Hill’s associate head coach, was touted early in the building stages in the program, not as a quick fix-all to placate university professors, but instead to make sure academics are first priority. He has accomplished much in a short time. The team GPA has risen from a 2.21 to a 2.87. He produced the first Academic All-American in the program’s history in 1999, senior cornerback Payton Williams. In 13 years, the program has produced 141 Academic All-WAC selections, most in the conference during that time. Prior to Hill’s arrival, Fresno State had produced a total of nine Academic All-WAC selections. In four of the last five years, Fresno State has led the WAC in Academic All-WAC selections, producing an all-time high of 18 in 2009. • NCAA APR of 946 ranked fourth-best among Division 1A public schools in the west, • A total of 141Academic All-WAC Selections (most in the WAC) • Fresno State has produced 122 Academic All-WAC selections this decade, the only school in league history with more than 100 in any decade.• Three Academic All-Americans: Andrew Jackson, first team in 2009; Robert Malone, second team in 2009; Payton Williams, second team in 1999. They are the only players in school history ever honored.

• Vernon Fox (2001) and Moses Harris (2009) received a National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame postgraduate scholarship Awards, giving Fresno State more award winners this decade that the four Pac-10 California schools (Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC) have combined• Lineman Kevin Cooper was selected the 2006 President’s Medal Winner as the top graduating senior at Fresno State.• Kicker Clint Stitser was selected the 2007 Dean’s Medal Winner from the Craig School of Business as the top graduating senior, was a semifinalist for the Draddy Award (Academic Heisman) and a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors athletic, academic and community service.

anybody, anytime, anyWHereHill’s accomplishments are remarkable, considering the rigorous non-conference schedule Fresno State has played since his arrival. In the last eight years, Fresno State has played 38 bowl opponents, including 18 the past three seasons. Of the team’s 28 losses since 2002, 24 were to teams which played in a bowl game or were nationally ranked. But more important are the victories. Since 2000, the Bulldogs have defeated 14 BCS Conference opponents - California in 2000 and Colorado, Wisconsin and Oregon State (2001 and 2003), Georgia Tech (2002 and 2007), UCLA (2003 and 2008), Washington, Kansas State and Virginia in 2004, Kansas State and Rutgers in 2008 and Illinois this sason. In the case of the Buffaloes, Huskies, Wildcats and Badgers, Fresno State defeated them on the road. As for the victories over the Yellow Jackets, Bruins and Cavaliers, those wins came in bowl games. Fresno State’s 15 wins over BCS schools in the last seven years ranks is tied with Utah for most of any non-BCS school. The Bulldogs are also the only non-BCS school to own three consecutive bowl victories over BCS schools. “We could win a lot of games if we schedule ourselves that way,” Hill says. “Our program has to play the best and beat the best to be considered the best. That’s how we are building our entire program, to reach that level of respect and success.”

building and groWingHill talks of adding seats to Bulldog Stadium and continuing to take on the toughest non-conference teams in the nation. By looking at what he has accomplished in this decade, one has to believe he can achieve anything. Under Hill’s guidance, the Duncan Building training room has been tripled in size with additional taping stations, rehabilitation pools and a private doctor’s office. Also constructed were two lighted practice fields and an adjacent weight room, which provides the Bulldogs with a facility that rivals any NFL training facility. A tireless worker, Hill has been a productive fundraiser. He has spearheaded capital projects on campus, including the new Ricchiutti Academic Center, which benefits all student-athletes at Fresno State, and the Duncan Building expansion, which includes a new football locker room, coaching offices, team meeting rooms and an auditorium style theater. Hill has championed the Green V Society, a new fundraising level in the Bulldog Foundation designed to generate funds for the athletics department.

taking it to anotHer levelWhen Hill was hired, he promised to win games and championships. He has done that. After taking over a program that hadn’t won more than five games the three previous seasons, Hill won six games his first season and won a share of the WAC Championship and received a berth in the EA Sports Las Vegas Bowl in year three. He has done this while playing some of the top programs in the nation. With perennial bowl teams UCLA, Colorado, Wisconsin, No. 1 Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio State, No. 1 USC, No. 3 LSU, Kansas State, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Colorado State, the Bulldogs have played as tough a schedule as anyone. Fresno State has played the most BCS opponents of any non-BCS school since the 2001.• Set a school record with seven consecutive bowl appearances, including victories over Georgia Tech, UCLA and Virginia. • A No. 8 national ranking in 2001, the highest ever by a Fresno State team and at the time, the highest by a non-BCS school.• A year-end national ranking of No. 22 in 2004, the first time Fresno State ended the season in the national polls since 1993 • School-record 11 wins in 2001 • 15 wins over BCS schools since 2001, second-most of any non-BCS school

TIM DeRUYTER Tim DeRuyter was named the 17th head

coach in Fresno State football history on Dec. 14, 2011.

DeRuyter comes to Fresno State with 22 years of experience, 16 of which have been spent as a de-fensive coordinator. He takes over the program after serving the past two seasons as the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. There, he also served as the interim head coach for the Ag-gies in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas against Northwestern on Dec. 31, leading A&M to a 33-22 victory.

DeRuyter hails from a pair of Hall of Fame coaches, as he was mentored by Fisher DeBerry at Air Force and by Chris Ault at Nevada. DeRuyter was a 2010 nominee for the Broyles Award that honors the na-tion’s top assistant coach, when he was working un-der former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman.

In DeRuyter’s two seasons with Texas A&M, he did what he has consistently accomplished through-out his career - developing defensive units that are among the best in the nation.

DeRuyter made an immediate impact during his first season in Aggieland as the 2010 squad improved fifty spots in the national rankings for total defense, rising to No. 55 in the country as the resurrected Wrecking Crew helped lead A&M to the Cotton Bowl.

Highlighting a long list of players who ex-celled under DeRuyter’s scheme was Von Miller, who in addition to earning All-American honors was awarded the 2010 Butkus Award, given annual-ly to the nation’s most outstanding linebacker. Miller went on to become the second overall pick of the Denver Broncos in the 2011 NFL draft.

In 2011, Texas A&M led the nation with 51 sacks and the Aggies were second in the Big 12 by only allowing 106.0 rushing yards per game.

Before coaching the Aggie defense, DeRuyter spent three years as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at his alma mater, Air Force. He also held the title of associate coach in 2008 and 2009.

His last year at Air Force saw the Falcons sport one of the top defense’s in the country. Air Force ranked 11th in the NCAA in total defense in 2009, allowing just 288.3 yards per game. The secondary, under his watch, ranked fifth in the country by giv-ing up just 154.3 passing yards per game and its 20 interceptions were the seventh-most in the FBS. For the season, Air Force created 34 turnovers to rank No. 5 nationally and the Falcon defense also ranked high nationally in fewest first down’s allowed (No. 4 at 14.62 per game), scoring defense (No. 10 at 15.69 points per game) and third-down efficiency (No. 13 at 30.86 percent).

His transformation of the Falcon defense was evident in the fact that the year before he took over, Air Force ranked

70th nationally in turnovers gained, 78th in both total and scoring defense and dead last in third-down defense.

From 2005-06, DeRuyter was the co-defensive coordinator at Nevada while also holding the coaching responsibilities for the safeties and pass defense. At Nevada, the Wolf Pack defense was ranked 79th the year before he took over, but after his final season (2006), the defense was ranked 48th in the NCAA.

DeRuyter served two different stints as the defensive coordi-nator/secondary coach at Ohio, first from 1995-98 and then again from 2002-04. Sandwiched in between is a three-year stop at Navy coaching its secondary.

Ohio had dropped off into a defense that ranked 99th in the country in 2001 without him, but by DeRuyter’s final season with the Bobcats (2004), Ohio’s defense was ranked 22nd in the nation in total defense.

The 48-year old coach got his start in the business in 1991, where he served as the JV coach and varsity assistant at Air Force.

DeRuyter has coached in 12 bowl games in his career, including one in each of the past six seasons, and as an outside linebacker at Air Force in the early `80s, he led the Falcons to three-straight bowl victories.

A native of Long Beach, Calif., De-Ruyter was born on Jan. 3, 1963 and graduated from St. John Bosco High School (Bellflower, Calif.) in 1981. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Air Force (1985) and a MBA in market strategy from Regis University (1992).

Upon his graduation from the Air Force Academy, he served seven-and-a-half years of active duty in the Air Force.

DeRuyter and his wife, Kara, have a son, Jake, a freshman at the Air Force Academy, and a daugh-ter, Christina, who is a junior in high school.
