Data ONTAP = Operating system on Network Appliance filers and

nearstores, borrows ideas from Unix (BSD) Same OS on every Filer/ NearStore model, different

architectures supported (Intel x86, AMD, 64-bit, MIPS, ... depending on hardware model)

All features are activated through licenses, eg. clustering
