The Frank BuckleyTournament
Our yearly football tournament is in memory of Frank Buckley who was one of the two founders of our junior section and was the inspiration behind the first tournament.
Frank helped found the junior section in 1994 and was the first secretary, it was his idea to run the first tournament in 1997. In 2002 he managed the Open Age that won the Manchester County Sunday Cup. If it wasnt for Frank we wouldnt have any youth or junior football at the club.
Frank was a very well liked and respected man. He was a family man who loved his
family more than anything and he loved football.
The first year was quite small scale when compared to recent years. We ran only 5 age groups with a total of 60 teams. It has grown steadily for a few years now, we have had 8 age groups with more than 120 teams over the two days. We have clubs now coming to the tournament from all over the country,
Our tournaments are refereed by fully qualified referees from the City of Salford Soccer League. This is a great family day out with food, entertainment etc., all day.
