The holiday season can be very dif-ficult for many people as they experience numerous negative emotions such as de-pression, shame, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, and emptiness. Christmas should be a time of happiness and celebration, for we are the reason for Christmas, God sent His son to save us at Christmas. Due to the commer-cialization of Christmas, many of us forget that Christmas is really the expression of Gods love for us, not the gifts, presents, or the decorations.

As Christians, we too often forget Gods love for us most especially at Christmas, as we tend to focus on what we dont have, what we cant give, who has left us, or what we have lost, or what we failed to accomplish as opposed to counting our blessing, the most important one being Christ.

The foundation of every born-again Christian is because God loved us enough to give His only begotten son for us. If He did not spare His son from us, what will He withhold from us? Can you imagine your child asking for permission to drink water in your home? Many of us behave like the prodigal sons brother, who on the return of his brother accused God of rejoicing over him and depriving him, yet he was the

one who failed to receive, God responded in this manner; And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. (Luke15:31 KJV)

The devil knows that when we live in the awareness of Gods love for us we are unstop-pable. An attack on our identity is cen-tral to many of the trials Chris-tians experience. Depression makes us feel inadequate, addiction makes us feel ashamed, guilty, filthy, and so we hide, abuse makes us feel dirty and ashamed, anxiety takes away our peace and rejection makes us feel broken.

The devil wants Christians to doubt who they are and doubt Gods love for them. He attacks in a very subtle manner, as he did with Adam and Eve. The goal of the trials and tribulations, is simply to shift our focus from God to ourselves; like Peter, who sank once his focus shifted from Christ, after

successfully walking on water; Something similar happened to Adam and Eve, their eyes opened to their shortcomings and they suddenly realized they were naked and felt ashamed hence they hid from God. The emotions of shame, inferiority, fear, inad-

equacy, and guilt are accusatory and are emotions that the devil employs in ac-cusing Christian. Shame, inferior-ity, inadequacy, fear, and guilt make people hide, as they

tend to make us feel undeserving and alone. Jesus did not come to condemn us but to convict us unto repentance.

After Adam and Eve ate the fruit their perspective changed, they became more aware of their nakedness and decided to help themselves instead of relying on God, they made themselves fig leaves, which were not even sufficient to keep them warm. They hid from God; and they hid from their solution, God is love, and as love, He covers a multi-tude of sins. In the nature of true love, He sought them out and covered their sins.

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. (Proverbs10:12 KJV)

Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. (Genesis3: 21 KJV)

Christmas is a time for all Christians to rejoice and focus on the gift. Jesus was born to save us because God loves us. We should focus on the full benefit of our new lives in Christ and Gods love for us.

He sent his son because of His love...But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the wash-ing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; (Titus3: 4-5 KJV)

Our salvation is as a result of His love for usBut God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: (Ephesians 2: 4-6 KJV)
