ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Keith Nelson brings over 19 years of professional experience to technical and complex building enclosure design and failure invesgaons. He is a Licensed Architect in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia as well as several other jurisdicons and is an ASHRAE Cerfied Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design and Bachelor of Architecture from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He is currently a Vong Member of the ASHRAE 90.1 Envelope Subcommiee, ASTM E06.55 Performance of Buildings and ASTM E06.41 Air Barriers. He has provided training naonally on the topics of Building Science and Enclosure. This presentaon will demysfy the requirements for designing and construcng the thermal control of the exterior building enclosure, specifically in idenfying and selecng one of many compliance paths, defining connuous insulaon and understanding the impact of thermal bridging. Our goal is to provide a firm understanding of how to select the best envelope code design approach for a project and understand the nuances of connuous insulaon. Aſter aending this presentaon, parcipants will be able to discuss the purpose and definion of the building enclosure; idenfy the mulple energy code compliance paths within the IECC; discuss the potenal opportunies and impacts of selecng each compliance path; and discuss the definion of connuous insulaon and the impact of thermal bridging on building enclosure design.
