Calibration

MPA Universität Stuttgart is equipped with an excel-lent calibration laboratory which s accredited by theiDeutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS).With more than 45,000 calibration certificates underthe accreditation the MPA Universität Stuttgart has alot of experience. The run time of the contracts withour customers for more than 45 years is a signal ofthe high customer satisfaction.

As an independent test body for calibration the MPAUniversität Stuttgart offers the following services: DAkkS calibration of force proving instruments in

the range from 100 N to 1 MN. The calibration ma-chines are traceable to the national standard ofthe Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt(PTB) in Braunschweig

DAkkS calibration / verification of material testingmachines including length measuring systems, hardness testing machines, impact testing ma-chines

DAkkS calibration of the voltage range for amplifi-ers

DAkkS calibration of indenters for hardness mea-surements

Bearing and expansion jointsin structural engineering

The unit bearing and expansion joints in structural en-gineering is an officially approved as well as notifiedinspection and certification body with testing, thirdparty surveillance and certification (PÜZ) of bridgebearings, expansions joints and anti-seismic de-vices, as well as the investigation into qualificationquality assurance and operational proving of bear-ings and components concerning bridges and con-structions. Our objective is to improve the operatingsafety of constructional bearings by external control-ling and quality assurance of components and con-structions. Furthermore our aim is to improve deve-lopment of bearings on the basis of research and theconsequences from events of damage and in additi-on to qualify new materials and constructional con-cepts within the scope of research and development, the state of the art for contributing to standards and di-rectives as well as minimizing the risk of damage. Our staff receives always training in order to meet allthese high demands.

Emphasis is put on the following activities: Research and approval tests to prove the applica-

bility of materials and lubricants (components) ofbridges and building constructions during shortand long term tests in dependence on relevant loa-ding parameters (such as pressure, temperature, velocity) as to friction, wear, creep

Acceptance tests on bearing components accor-ding to the required approval tests and standardsas to materials characteristics (strength, hard-ness), surface characteristics, friction and wearbehaviour

Third party surveillance and certification of bea-ring systems such as slide bearings, sphericalbearings, pot bearings, roller bearings, restrainedbearings and approval of components

Third party surveillance and certification of bridgeexpansion joints according European TechnicalApproval Guidelines (ETAGs)

Third party surveillance and certification of anti-seismic devices according EN 15129

Analysis of events of damage and assessment ofthe installation situation in the construction, inves-tigation of dismantled bearings

Expert activities Advice on processes in bearing technology Cooperation in committees and the expert com-

mittee "bearings" of the Deutsches Institut für Bau-technik Berlin

Training of experts in bearings in structural engi-neering
