“Prior to beginning this phase of my life, I thought the biggest impact that I could have in educating children would be in the classroom. Participating in research has helped me see that helping teachers become better educators has a vast impact as well.”– Crystal Waters, senior interdisciplinary studies major, who presented her research at the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting and was published in Kappa Delta Pi Record

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I have managed to connect with each of my students, and, though I may not bring them to do their best all the time, I have given them the tools to know how. If nothing else, I want to raise the bar for teachers everywhere.”– Bonnie Hill, a 2004 graduate of the department, who recently re-ceived the Teacher of the Year Award at Middle College for Technol-ogy Careers in Houston Independent School District.

“What I cherish the most about being a teacher is the opportunity to work with students and see them grow. I promote truthfulness, openness, and balance of opinion among my students and challenge them to question com-monly accepted beliefs. My main goal is for them to become professionals who care for their students as I have cared for them.”– Lynn Burlbaw, Associate Professor in the department, was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching from the Association of Former Students.
