WHERE ARE WE THIS MONTH…

Miami Today’s Dance Tip

This months dance tip is going back to prehistoric times. The simple action of learning to walk forwards and backwards on two legs, rather than four which is what every human learns in their early years as a baby.

Whenever we go forwards in any dance step we must always allow the body to move first, then the legs and feet will catch up to create a step.

Whenever we move backwards we must make the feet go first then the leg, then the body arrives on a straight leg.

You see, when moving forwards you have the time to transfer your weight and centre from the heels, to the middle of the foot, to the balls of the foot and finally over the toes. By this time your other foot should have moved forward by the travel of the body.

Moving backwards is the direct opposite for the pure simple reason that out heels don't have toes to feel the floor behind us.

A lot of the time Anna and I have to pinch ourselves when we are sitting in the presence of these people, but it is actually true and actually happening right now.

Last newsletter we introduced you all to the real ‘Kenny Kramer’ who was such a riot to be around. Our bellies are still sore from laughing so much. This time around we want you to see who else we have had the amazing fortune to hang out with.

A gem and precious stone specialist/merchant/designer who is possibly a comedian in disguise.

Add a master photographer who could find beauty and art around every corner and has the most down to earth approach to life, that it really grounds you when chatting to him.

Now bring in a websites and social media specialist who should be retiring but has the stamina, attitude and foresight of an 18 year old but the intellect and experience of a wise old soothsayer.

Then if thats not enough throw in the vice chairman of “Newseum", who was one of the most sought after news and current affairs speakers of our time and

you have a lunch time conversation which flows and meanders around everything from politics to sex to religion. The three

topics we are all told to stay away from, oh but what fun it is when these guys get together…

Liars Club…what a buzz that was!!A massive “Thank you!!” is owed to our brand new Cruise Director Shane Morley. For the first time in nearly 11 years of being with the same cruise line, I was allowed onto the panel of ‘Liars Club’.

The excitement, the energy, the power and the line up of names, all gave me an absolute thrill down to my socks. Dr. Jay Wolff, Mark Merchant and John Joseph. Three of the most intelligent and quick whited personalities on the planet…and me?!?!

For those who witnessed the event, life will never be the same again, and they will never recover from what they saw and heard on that night. Maybe their abdominal muscles will, but their minds have been scarred forever.

All in all this particular event went over time by at least 30 minutes and was the most hilarious that I have ever seen on Crystal, and i’m not just saying that because I was part of this amazing line up. It was a real blast being in the mix and I thank Shane for allowing me and trusting me to do it.

What an amazing ride this has been Well we started off boarding an airplane in Melbourne Australia and found ourselves in Miami USA two days later but on the same date as we left. Go figure. Miami was amazing as I always thought it would be, and definitely did not disappoint in terms of night life. Then came the final moment when it was time to board the beautiful Crystal Symphony. What an exciting moment that was, and every moment since has been just as amazing.

Anna and I have been to places that we would normally never get the opportunity to see. We have visited with people who have lived lifetimes ahead of us and we’ve come out of the experience so much more enriched and grateful for the times we’ve spent with these wonderful human beings.

Editing is such sweet sorrow…For anyone who has ever seen a vision in their mind of a finished product, you will understand when I say that editing your own instructional dance video is such a joyful experience…for the first 3 minutes. Then it becomes hell.

Gone are the days of paying a camera crew to film your special event and then waiting for weeks

or even months to see the finished product, then realising that the finished product is nothing like what you had originally envisioned in your mind.

These days you film your event on your iPhone or maybe a friends more expensive camera, and then dump the footage onto a 64 gigabyte USB device which usually fits into your wallet or hangs on your keychain. All you need to do now is spend the best years of your life editing your amazing piece of art.

So you go out and find the best editing software on the market for your particular project. The products range from ‘iMovie' for the raw beginner to software like ‘Final cut pro’ for the advanced editor among you. Then you drag your footage over from your USB and…presto its now ready to be cut up and edited.

So you can now sit down and begin your editing process, and you do. You sit down at 7:30 in the evening. When you take your first break which seems like only a half hour ago, its now 10:30pm.

You look around and think to yourself:

“No wonder the house is so quiet, everyone has gone to bed”

You then make your cup of tea or coffee and sit down once more only this time tell your self you are really going to give it some elbow grease. So you work non stop for the next hour, or so it seems. You look up at the clock after an hour and the clock says 3:45am.

“Whaaaaaaaaattt??? Where did the time go???” you think.

Truth is, you have been so engrossed in your work that time seemed to have simply stopped. This is what has been happening for Anna and I in our plight to bring you all the most amazing instructional dance videos ever. We’re putting every bit of spare time we find to finalise this project and bring it onto the market. So standby folks we promise that when it comes out, you will think your actually there with us again.

When we think of etiquette, we normally think of opening doors or being polite when meeting someone. Our mind goes to table manners and what clothes are appropriate to wear to which occasion.

We don't normally think of a way of behaving on the dance floor but let me tell you there is definitely a right and a wrong and everyone is always watching.

1. Always go and introduce yourself to the owners or organisers when entering a new dance venue

2. Stand back and watch for a couple of dances and try to understand who’s who in the zoo.

3. Always accept the first dance unless someone is being rude or obnoxious. After that it is up to you if you dance with them later or not

4. Personal hygiene is a extremely important when you are dancing multiple times with different people on the same night. Remember to wash your hands regularly, keep your breath fresh, use antiperspirants deodorant. A good idea for guys especially, is to carry a spare shirt in case the one you are wearing becomes completely drenched.

These are just a few things that come to mind at the moment. More points on etiquette in future newsletters.

What a great night of non stop dance action at the Goldcoast Ballroom, Hollywood Miami.

A blast from the past…
