Digital Etiquette Definition: A basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you. Key Terms: Technology - The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. Digital Citizenship - Refers to a person utilizing information technology in order to engage in society, politics, and government participation. Regulation - a rule or directive made and maintained by an authority. Digital Society - A Digital Society is a modern, progressive society that is formed as a result of the adoption and integration of Information and Communication Technologies at home, work, education and recreation. Behavior - The way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward others.

Overview of digital citizenshipThere are nine elements of digital citizenship which include: Digital Access,

Digital Commerce, Digital Communication, Digital Literacy, Digital Etiquette, Digital Law, Digital Rights and Responsibilities, Digital Health and Wellness, and Digital Security.

The purpose of studying Digital Citizenship is to know what is appropriate and inappropriate technology usage.

Summary: In 2015 a girl named Zoe Johnson was being harassed on Facebook by other students. She was being called hurtful names and people were spreading rumors about her. She had suffered many years of taunting and teasing and bullying until on July 6th when she took her own life. This relates to Digital Etiquette because it shows that without digital etiquette that this kind of stuff could be happening more often.

Digital CommerceDefinition: Electronic buying and selling of goods

Key Terms:

Electronic - Having or operating with the aid of many small components, especially microchips and transistors, that control and direct an electric current.

Buyer - A person who makes a purchase

Seller - A person who sells something

Digital Economy - An economy that is based on digital computing technologies.

Market - a regular gathering of people for the purchase and sale of provisions, livestock, and other commodities.

Summary: On cyber monday this year, many companies experienced website crashes. These crashes did not allow customers to make their purchases online. Some of the companies that were apart of this were, Target, PayPal, Victoria’s Secret, etc. The stores claimed that the sheer number of users on the websites were what overloaded the servers. This relates to Digital Commerce because it talks about companies and their experiences with one of the most busy online shopping days of the year.

Key Terms:

Malware - software that is intended to damage or disable computers and computer systems

Digital Community - Places where individuals can share their opinions and chat to others online.

Virus - A malware program that, when executed, replicates by inserting copies of itself into other computer programs, data files, or the boot sector of the hard drive

Surge Control - The use of different techniques and equipment in a hydraulic system to prevent any excessive gain in pressure

Data Backup - A data backup is the result of copying or archiving files and folders for the purpose of being able to restore them in case of data

Summary: Recently Apple has discovered a malware program that has been released to attack IPhones. They say that this malware only targets jailbroken IPhones and is affecting up to 18 countries including the U.S. Also, this attack may have originated in China and is the worst cyber attack that they’ve ever seen. This relates to Digital Security because it describes a situation that could have been prevented if that company had better Digital Security.

Ethical - Of or relating to moral principles or the branch of knowledge dealing with these.

Plagiarizing - Take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one's own.

Trojan Horse - A program designed to breach the security of a computer system while ostensibly performing some innocuous function.

Law - the system of rules that a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may enforce by the imposition of penalties.

Download - Copy (data) from one computer system to another, typically over the Internet.

Summary: A news editor for CNN was recently fired for publishing stories with plagiarized work. Reports say that she released at least 50 stories with a total of at least 128 separate instances of plagiarism. This relates to Digital Law because it this event shows how breaking the Digital Law can end up having you fired or even sent to jail in some cases.

Repetitive Stress Syndrome - Is a general term used to describe the pain felt in muscles, nerves and tendons caused by repetitive movement and overuse.

Ergonomic Practices - Exercises or practices done by individuals to help keep a healthy body after not moving for an extended amount of time.

Psychological - of, affecting, or arising in the mind; related to the mental and emotional state of a person.

Internet Addiction - any online-related, compulsive behavior which interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and one's work environment.

Inherent - existing in something as a permanent, essential, or characteristic attribute.

Summary: Parents across the globe are becoming increasingly worried about their sons and daughters online gaming addictions. Counselors are also confounded on this new idea of online gaming addiction as they have never experienced to heard of it before. Counselors are giving parents the best ideas that they have but the problem is that the suggestions aren't working. Parents are worried that since there kids are sacrificing social events to play video games that they are not getting the exercises that they need to stay healthy. This relates to Digital Health and Wellness because it shows that if internet addiction gets too bad it can lead to people becoming more and more unhealthy each minute that they spend on the computer.
