Digital Media Design - Graphic Design (Certificate)Certificate of MasteryMinimum of 33 credit hoursCertificate of Mastery in Graphic DesignStudents earning the Certificate of Mastery in Graphic Design will receive hands-on training in design theory, illustration, and state-of-the-artproduction methods in electronic publishing, computer drawing and digital imaging. This certificate prepares graduates to work as designers, printmedia production artists, Web page creators, multimedia presentation producers, illustrators, or digital photography manipulators. Graduates work foradvertising agencies, individual companies, printing companies, service bureaus, multimedia agencies, newspapers, magazines, television stations,screen printers, graphic design businesses, photo labs, or as independent graphic artists. Digital Media Design students who wish to transfer to afour-year institution should enroll in the Visual Arts program for an Associate in Arts degree. Transfer students should contact your faculty advisor formore information. *Certificate pending OSRHE approval.

DMD 1013 - Creativity and DesignPrerequisites: ENGL 0203, adequateplacement score, or by meeting determinedplacement measures3 Credits This course combines theory andproblem-solving assignments to introducestudents to the main concepts of creativityand design. Throughout this course studentswill exam the principles of design and criticalthinking skills that lead to creative solutions.Within this collaborative learning environmentstudents will complete hands on activities thatstimulate innovation and promote life longlearning.

DMD 1023 - Introduction to GraphicDesignPrerequisites: DMD 10533 Credits The student will be introduced tothe principles of design, color, typography, andthe design process. Student proficiency will bedemonstrated by the successful completion ofprojects.

DMD 1053 - Electronic Publishing:Indesign IPrerequisites: ENGL 0203, adequateplacement score, or by meeting determinedplacement measures3 Credits Students will demonstrateproficiency in using the Macintosh computerin the production of various types of printedmaterial. in addition, they will demonstrateskills in specifying typography, importingphotos and artwork into documents, theapplication of design principles, and preparingdocuments for the commercial printingprocess.

DMD 1183 - Computer Drawing:IllustratorPrerequisites: ENGL 0203, adequateplacement score, or by meeting determinedplacement measures3 Credits Students will demonstrateknowledge of vector illustration techniquesusing Adobe Illustrator software. Studentswill also create and edit graphic objects andtype, select various menu commands, and usekeyboard shortcuts.

DMD 1513 - Graphic DesignPrerequisites: DMD 1053; DMD 10233 Credits The student will apply designprinciples, color, typography, problem solving,and production skills to create effectivedesigns for print and electronic media. Studentproficiency will be demonstrated by thesuccessful completion of projects.

DMD 2053 - Electronic Publishing:Indesign IIPrerequisites: DMD 1053

3 Credits The student will demonstrate theproficiency using advanced functions andcommands of electronic desktop publishing.This will include libraries, master pages, colorseparations, prepress document preparation,working with graphic files, and templates.

DMD 2323 - Publication DesignPrerequisites: DMD 10233 Credits The student will design newspaperand magazine elements that meet industrystandards for print and electronic media.Student will demonstrate understanding ofelements of a publication, publication layout,design principles, color, typography, problemsolving, and production skills through thesuccessful completion of projects.

DMD 2353 - Applied Graphic DesignPrerequisites: DMD 15133 Credits The student will apply skills learnedin previous classes to produce real projects forthe College or community. Students will designand produce a variety of production pieces.

DMD 2773 - Image Editing: PhotoshopIPrerequisites: ENGL 0203, adequateplacement score, or by meeting determinedplacement measures3 Credits The student will demonstrateknowledge of the tools and functions ofPhotoshop software program. The studentwill complete projects which indicate anunderstanding of image retouching andmanipulation, color correction, imagesharpening, RGB color, CYMK color,separations, channels, paths, and filters.

DMD 2783 - Image Editing: PhotoshopIIPrerequisites: DMD 27733 Credits The student will demonstrateknowledge of more advanced functionsof the Photoshop software program.Student proficiency will be demonstratedby successfully completing projects whichrequire skills in advanced techniques inselection, layering, color correction, and imagemanipulation.

DMD 2803 - Portfolio Preparation andPresentationPrerequisites: DMD 1013; DMD 1053; DMD1183; AND DMD 27833 Credits The student will prepare aprofessional portfolio for presentation andevaluation. The portfolio will include aresume, matted projects and other pieces thatdemonstrate the student's ability to apply skillsand techniques acquired in the program.
