• the first specialised cooperative portal created within the framework of national portal Croatian Cultural Heritage

• developed from digitization projects in National and University Library in Zagreb:– Croatian Historic Newspapers– Digitizaton of Old Croatian Journals– Cooperative Portal of Digitized Croatian

MOTIVES• Newspapers and journals are

endangered resources (physical condition, brittle, fragile paper …)

• Unique and valuable content on history, culture, politics, social life, etc.

• Holdings scattered in a number of libraries

• Limited access for users, general public

• Isolated digitization projects

AIMS

originals• Increased access• Enhanced availability of printed

national heritage• Develop a tool for the

management of digital images• Establish a portal and a

cooperative database of ALL Croatian historic newspapers and journals

• Promote and develop standardised and harmonised digitisation procedures

• Coordinate and rationalise digitization efforts

• Provide support for digitization projects of old newspapers and journals

• Kroatischer Korrespondent, the first printed Croatian newspaper from 1789

• Croatian newspapers from the 19th century up to 1940

• A selection of journals from the 19th century up to 1940, continuously published

• Information on participating institutions, their digitization projects, titles planned for digitization, digitized collections ...

management, digitization and preservation projects)

• Intensified cooperation: e.g. Austria (ANNO); Bosnia and Herzegovina (INFOBIRO Mediacentar)
