Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) In this program, you’ll examine the principles, techniques and regulations of the building and construction industry for all types of medium-rise and wide-span buildings, up to 25 metres high. Construction is not just about building sites, it’s about building a bigger picture: the planning, coordination, and control of a project from inception to delivery. This practical program incorporates hands-on work and project-based learning. You’ll experience many aspects of building projects and understand how these relate to each other. You’ll go on site excursions to gain hands-on experience in the field, which will include visits to residential projects and commercial construction projects. Graduates of the course can continue their studies at RMIT with the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).*Students require a Construction Induction Card (CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the Construction Industry) to take part in required site visits and or/associated assessment. Industry connections We’ve developed this program in response to industry needs and it’s recognised by building and construction industry organisations. Career outlook Completing the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) gives you a stronger chance of gaining employment in the building industry. Career opportunities include roles in the following areas: ¡ building construction, supervision and management ¡ estimating ¡ purchasing ¡ contracts administration You may also find employment in other related fields, either on a building site or in a head office environment. Professional recognition While studying you are eligible to apply for Student membership with the Australian Institute of Building. On graduation this membership can be upgraded to Associate membership. In this program, you’ll examine the principles, techniques and regulations of the building and construction industry for all types of medium-rise and wide-span buildings, up to 25 metres high.

You’ll learn all aspects of the building industry, including:

¡ project planning and management

¡ project estimating

¡ project monitoring

¡ structural principles both residential and commercial

¡ occupational health and safety requirements

¡ office management/administration skills

¡ thermal principles

¡ building regulations

This qualification requires completion of the following:

¡ Eighteen (18) units of competency are required - 13 Compulsory Units plus 5 Elective Units
