ESL 333 offers instruction in building reading comprehension skills. In this course, students learn intermediate-low strategies for pre-reading (examining the features of a book/text, organizational features of a unit/chapter, skimming and scanning for proper nouns, key words, topic sentences), reading comprehension (looking for main ideas/details/conclusion, using context clues to derive meaning of synonyms/antonyms, recognizing literary elements such as literal and figurative language) and post-reading (dictionary skills, setting up graphic organizers, retelling a story).

ESL 323 offers instruction in building reading comprehension skills at the intermediate level. Reading skills addressed in ESL 333 are reinforced and expanded through the introduction of increasingly sophisticated strategies using texts at an intermediate level of difficulty.
