Welcome to Divine Grace Lutheran Church

We extend our sincere greetings and welcome to all who are joining us for worship. We pray that God’s Word will refresh and strengthen you for the coming week. If you are a visitor, thank you for joining us and we invite you to worship with us again soon! If you are looking for a church home, we invite you to become part of our congregation. Our pastor will answer any questions that you may have. We kindly ask that all visitors please sign the Guest Register in the church entryway.

Theme: Our faithfulness as Christians is a response to the faithfulness God has shown toward us. His love for us when we were unlovable and his salvation for us when we were without hope are divine acts of faithfulness. These acts inspire us to thank, praise, serve, and obey him.

Opening Hymn: 250 From All that Dwell below the Skies Liturgy: Service of the Word, page 38 Old Testament Lesson: Ruth 1:1-19a Ruth's faithfulness to her mother-in-law was directly tied to her devotion to the one true God of Israel. 1 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land, and a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. 2 The man's name was Elimelech, his wife's name Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there. 3 Now Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, 5 both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband. 6 When she heard in Moab that the LORD had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, Naomi and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there. 7 With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah. 8 Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother's home. May the LORD show kindness to you, as you have shown to your dead and to me. 9 May the LORD grant that each of you will find rest in the home of another husband.” Then she kissed them and they wept aloud 10 and said to her, “We

will go back with you to your people.” 11 But Naomi said, “Return home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands? 12 Return home, my daughters; I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me--even if I had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons-- 13 would you wait until they grew up? Would you remain unmarried for them? No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the LORD's hand has gone out against me!” 14 At this they wept again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-by, but Ruth clung to her. 15 “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.” 16 But Ruth replied, “Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her. 19 So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem.

Psalm 111, page 106 in the hymnal

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done mar-vel-ous things.

Great are the works 'of the Lord;* they are pondered by all who de'light in them.

Glorious and majestic 'are his deeds,* and his righteousness endures for'ever.

He has caused his wonders to be re'membered;* the Lord is gracious and com'passionate.

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done mar-vel-ous things.

The works of his hands are faith'ful and just;* all his precepts are trust'worthy.

He provided redemption for his 'people;* he ordained his covenant for'ever.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of 'wisdom;* all who follow his precepts have good under 'standing.

Glory be to the Father and 'to the Son* and to the Holy 'Spirit, as it was in the be'ginning,* is now, and will be forever. 'Amen.

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done mar-vel-ous things.

Epistle Lesson & Sermon Text: 2 Timothy 2:8-13 The salvation that he had in Jesus Christ moved Paul to be faithful to the gospel despite

the suffering that he endured because of it. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. Verse of the Day: Alleluia. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation. Alleluia. Gospel Lesson: Luke 17:11-19

Only one of the ten lepers returned with a word of thanks for the miraculous healing of his disease. When we realize the tremendous blessings Christ has earned for us, may thankfulness always be our response. 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” Hymn of the Day: 476 Thee Will I Love, My Strength, My Tower Sermon (2 Timothy 2:8-13):

Never Give Up!
