Here’s the answer: You buy a battery and specific starter, then strip the starter and send the main shaft components over to STRIKE and you get this kit back: Which will look like this when complete:

• You buy a Toyota Camry starter (Engine series 3SFE, these are the first model of the Toyota Camry & Holden Apollo) with a yellow sticker on the side that reads as follows

Further identification is that the mounting flange that must look like this: But not like these: Then clean up the starter and strip to the point that the main shaft and inner shaft have been removed (it is ok to leave the inner bearing and drive gear in place). This will require the external pinion gear to be removed (and discarded). Do not forget to include the dust shield. What you send will look like this: Check out the outer bearing (the bearing that is adjacent to the original drive gear) for smooth running and make a decision if you think that it is ok as these sometimes need to be replaced. Once the drive adapter has been pressed on, there is no way to replace the bearing, other than cutting away the adapter (a real pain). After filling out the order form completed, send this and the shaft assembly (inc dust shield) to STRIKE. Price for the kit is $197 or $212 if you want the bearing replaced. This includes overnight return freight cost with a delivery to your door. Included in the form is the request for you to specify if you want a 17 mm (blue painted) or 19 mm (silver painted) socket on the drive shaft and/or if you want an additional shaft at a price of $33. These prices include GST. We return the kit (as indicated in the picture above) to you with the tax invoice receipt. Note that the overnight return freight cost is included in the price and that if you put down a PO box number as the delivery address, then the kit must go by Australia Post. Then:

• you buy a battery (Model CB14L-A2) from a motorcycle or battery shop, • you assemble the kit as per instructions from STRIKE and • you end up with a good looking, well engineered and powerful kart engine starter.
