Pimentel Beach ResortThis modern beach resort is a good place to surf. Youcan also observe fisherman who still make use of theancestral rafts, “caballitos de totora” (little horses oftotora reeds), traditionally used on the north coast ofPeru sin de pre-Columbian era.

City of FerreñafeFounded by the Spanish, this agricultural town isdedicated to growing rice. The main feature is theancient church of Santa Lucia, a Baroque styleconstruction. This area is known as the “Tierra dedoble fé” (Land of two faiths) for maintaining thebeliefs of Catholicism and shamanism at the sametime.

Museo Nacional de Sicán(National Sicán Museum)

Sican or House of the Moon is a museum thatgathers objects from the research lead bye thearcheologist Izumi Shimada, director of the SicanArcheological Proyect, for more than two decades.The exhibition compiles the artifacts found in the sitedigs of Batán Grande and demonstrates how theywere used or fabricated. The intention is to modeldifferent aspects linked to the Sican culture throughthe representation of the details of domestic life, themanufacturing processes or production work. Therooms represented excavated tomb and exhibit theburial paraphernalia discovered there.The museum also offers detailed information on theexcavation process and the site preservation, as wellas the chronology, development, trade networks,economic activities, burial patterns, and cosmologyof the Sican or Lambayeque cultures.

Museo Nacional Tumbas Reales de Sipán (Royal Tombs of Sipán National Museum)

This modern architectural building houses thecollection of archeological objects of gold, silver andcopper found in tomb of the Lord of Sipan.The museum is directed by the archeologist WalterAlva, manager and director of the project, who wasalso the discoverer of the tomb in the archeologicalzone of the Huaca Rajada in the town of Sipan.Among the many important pieces are earrings,ceremonial scepters, medallions, heavy circular goldingot, nose rings, gold necklaces in the shape ofpeanuts, a gold chin and cheek mask, gold back flapand gold disks worn around the neck.

Tucume Archeological complexAccording to the legend, it was built in the year 700A.D. and was founded by Calac, descendent ofNaylamp. Tucume, or Valley of the Pyramids is madeup of twenty-six pyramids, the most impressive onesbeing the Huaca del Pueblo, La Raya, El Sol, and LasEstacas. Besides of archeology richness, otherprograms are offered such as testing of the localcuisine, shamanistic experiences, traditionalmedicine and cultural exchange. Tucume stands outfor its levels of community involvement in thepreservation of its natural and cultural heritage.

Archeological Complex of the Huaca Rajada – Lord of SipanIt is located at the borders of what once was the Pomalcaplantation. There in 1987 , a tomb of a Mochican ruler, laternamed Lord of Sipan, was discovered with intact vestiges.The findings allowed experts to learn about the burialrituals of the Mochican sovereign who was buried with awarrior, a priest, two women, a boy, a dog, a llama, and aguardian with both feet amputated. The burialparaphernalia include numerous items of gold and silverjewelry inlaid with turquoise and lapis lazuli.The pre-Inca construction, or huaca, is framed by a burialplatform and two truncated adobe pyramids that alsobelonged to the Mochican culture (first fourth centuriesA.D)
