In January, the Adult Sunday School class will begin reading through the book

“Naked Spirituality: A Life With God in 12 Words” by Brian D. McLaren Sunday

mornings at 9:15 AM. This book is a fantastic way to engage in conversations with

God in a new and simpler way.

The description of the book says, “…church leader Brian McLaren reinvigorates our

approach to spiritual fulfillment in Naked Spirituality—by tearing down the old dog-

matic practices that hamper our spiritual growth, and leading us toward the mean-

ingful spiritual practices that can help transform our lives.” Join us as we continue

to transform our lives in the way of Jesus, and as we continue to seek to follow

those two simple commandments, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your

heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first

commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as your-

self.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

This new year we hope to live into a life rooted in our faith, grounded in our love,

and steeped in learning together. Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM in the

Conference Room. If you would like to join us, come, grab a seat and a cup of cof-

fee. If you would like for us to order you a book please let Pastor Heidi or Pastor

Greg know, the cost is $15.00. You may also find them at your favorite bookseller.

We look forward to deep conversation, deep learning, and deep connection with

God and one another.

Happy New Year!

CLEARWATER WINTER

WOMEN’S 2020 RETREAT

Theme: God Shaped Connection Keynote Speaker: Rev. Candace Adams

There is tremendous pressure for individuals to connect with God in ways that feel

disingenuous and contrived. The goal of this retreat is to empower and encourage

women to connect with God as they have been fashioned. This retreat will enable

individuals to experiment with a variety of spiritual modalities / practices, and will as-

sist women to claim and celebrate the manor in which they have been designed.

The workshops and worship experiences will offer individuals opportunities to en-

gage their whole being through multi-sensory engagement.

God at Work A few months ago, a group gathered to begin talking about liturgical banners for our sanctuary. Eventually, we hope to have banners for many different seasons, but to begin we decided to try to create these banners that were included in the Advent worship resources from A Sanctified Art.

Paper was purchased and the images were projected and then traced onto the paper. Then the images were painstakingly cut out using exacto knives to display the images you see. Many people of all ages worked on these banners and we hope that they enhance our worship with visual re-minders of the ancient story we tell every December.

Here is part of the Artist Statement by Hannah Garrity.

"These are the images of time honored moments that inspire our faith yearly. Within the fabric of the shad-ows, however, images from the texts for Advent emerge. Shadows cause us to slow down, to wait, to listen, to dig deeply into the needs around us, to en-gage the difficult parts of life. In the upper left of the hills, the shadows are made from patterns of plow-shares and pruning hooks. In the lower left of the banner, the wolf and the lamb lie down peacefully to-gether beside the stump of Jesse. In the upper right of the landscape, crocuses bloom. Under the star (to the right of the wolf), Mary and Joseph peer in awe at the incredible miracle of Je-sus. Hope, peace, joy, and love—this Advent we imagine anew how we can bring God’s essentials to the world."

A HUGE Thank you to everyone who has and will be generously donating their time to help members of our community!
