Movies released between summer season releases and Holidays season movies always face the dilemma of flopping on the box office. With people busy with holiday events, movies are not considered the first priority especially in October and November where horror movies have more chances of getting the money. There are only a few film which have been able to hold their own in an October/November release.

Marvel’s latest movie Doctor Strange has become one of those accomplished movies which has performed beyond the anticipation of many experts and critics. The reviews for the movie have been excellent and it has been recommended for all to see. As has been done with many other Marvel movies, Doctor Strange was also released overseas prior to its 4th November U.S. release.

Starting with the United Kingdom and Ireland on Tuesday; the movie expanded to around 33 markets including France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Korea, Australia and Mexico by Friday. In those markets and the rest, the movie has taken a solid $86 million already. Not reaching the top in Lithuania and Finland, it topped the box office in almost all the rest of the territories that the movie was released in.

The movie had a lot of speculation attached to it for Marvel. It contained a lot of supernatural elements which are not signatory to Marvel. Many predicted that Doctor Strange release will somehow upheave the golden streak that Marvel has been able to deliver in the past 13 movies with heroes that mainly used non-supernatural means to evade danger on the Universe. The critics and the audience alike have praised the movies’ special effects and the illusionary format. It seems like the movie is a welcome change from the typical Marvel style that people were craving for. The $86 million box office earnings is a good sign for the U.S. opening.
