NGECHA PRESBYTERY REPORT

TO THE 22ND

GENERAL ASSEMBLY-APRIL 2018

1) PREAMBLE

P.C.E.A Ngecha Presbytery is one of the 56 presbyteries which constitute the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. The Presbytery was inaugurated on 22/12/2013 after the sub-division of Larger Limuru Presbytery into 3 presbyteries that is New

Limuru presbytery, Lari presbytery and Ngecha Presbytery. The Presbytery stretches through three constituencies of Kiambu County which are Limuru, Kikuyu and Kiambaa Constituencies. It borders; Limuru, Rungiri and Kiamathare Presbyteries.

The presbytery is located in semi –urban set-up

The headquarter of the presbytery is located in Ngecha Mother Church which is located approximately 19km from Nairobi Central business District.

The Presbytery is surrounded by several institutions which include St. Paul’s University,

The Presbytery comprises of five Parishes namely, P.C.E.A Ngecha Parish. P.C.E.A Redhill Parish

P.C.E.A Nyathuna Parish P.C.E.A. Kabuku Parish

P.C.E.A Kahuho Parish With a total of 16 congregations. Total membership is 2,993 adults and 1,265 children. Active Elders are 74 while retired Elders are23.

Ongoing expansion of the Mother Church

a) ACHIEVEMENTS WITHIN THE PARISHES

1. Red Hill Parish

Launch of the five year strategic plan 2017-2022 Commencement of the construction of the new sanctuary at P.C.E.A Rwinu.

2. Nyathuna parish

Clearance of presbytery MMF and head office MMF allocation in time. Two congregations have modern screens and CCT cameras.

3. Kabuku Parish

4. Ngecha Parish

20th year parish anniversary which saw approximately 50 redemptions. Gitangu and Thingati anniversaries which saw approximately 40 weddings and redemptions. Launching of bottled water.

Employment of Youth and Children’s’ ministry co-coordinator. Progress in Mother church new Sanctuary.

5. Kahuho Parish

Completion of presbytery MMF. Ongoing construction of sanctuary at Kaimba and Kanjeru.

b) CHALLENGES

1. 1 Red Hill Parish Diminishing of the youth members.

Low attendance in districts fellowships.

2. Nyathuna parish

Few male members are committed in church attendance. Accrued arrears in some congregation.

3. Kabuku Parish Not having any income generating project.

Teething problems since the parish is one congregation Lack of modern technology.

4. Ngecha Parish Lack of adequate finances.

Inadequate church school personnel. Close down of the Health facility due to instability.

5. Kahuho Parish Meeting financial obligation for Head Quarter MMF.

Declining flow of funds towards the end of year. Decline in economic activity caused by high political temperatures.

c) FUTURE PLANS

1. Red Hill Parish Completion of the first phase of the church complex at P.C.E.A Rwinu.

Laying of the foundation stone, completion, opening and dedication of the new sanctuary at P.C.E.A Karura. Construction of the classroom block to accommodate the growing number of children at P.C.E.A Cuthbert. To buy a plot at Gatuikira area and opening a church.

Coming up with youth programmes.

2. Nyathuna parish

Having an income generating project. More commitment in church groups performance especially church school.

Start the construction of P.C.E.A Githunguri Gichamu church.

3. Kabuku Parish

To buy land in Majiri or Tigoni and start a new church. Expansion of the nursery school.

To build a new office block. Modernize our church.

4. Ngecha Parish Completion of Mother church sanctuary by 2019.

Completion of Gitangu toilets and offices by 2018. Commissioning additional church school teacher. Leasing out health centre as an income generating project.

Hosting Presbytery convention in 2018.

5. Kahuho Parish Focus on Head Quarter MMF. Completion of the ongoing construction of sanctuaries at P.C.E.A Kaimba and Kanjeru congregation.

Capacity building for elders through retreats.

d) Special ministries in the presbytery.

Tee programmes in all of the parishes.

Special ministry of the needy families in Ngecha Parish. Special ministry of re- integration of members who used to be full members of church and stopped due to some

circumstances. Rite of passage programme held in all of the parishes

12) CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES COORDINATED BY PARISHES.

PARISH/ PRESBYTERY ACTIVITY

Ngecha Children development programme which helps the needy in the society. (CDC)

Visited the needy, old and sick and offered them with items like blankets and shopping.

Cleaned the shopping centre of Ngecha Town.

Planted tree in Ngecha girls Secondary school and Gichuru High

School.

Sponsors to Gichuru Secondary School.

Kabuku Contribution of money which helped one of the needy students in the church.

Nyathuna Visited the aged and gave them some Christmas gifts.

Visited the widow and gave them Christmas token.

Visited the sick and bereaved and prayed with them.

Red Hill The parish through congregations visited the sick and the

bereaved and prayed with them.

The session office gave Christmas gift to the widows.

The church gave financial support to less fortunate in the society.

Presbytery Visited the bereaved sick and the needy.

1. Youth

Activities/ achievements

Successful Youth week in the month of May 2017.

Attended the presbyterial meetings.

Visited Alpha Joy Children’s Home and donated food, clothes and money.

Held monthly revivals and fellowships.

Had a trip to Kilimabogo.

Held prayer and fasting events.

Held a youth Seminar within the year.

Increase in the number of the youth in the Presbytery.

A more unified Presbytery youth.

To reach to members who have not been attending church.

2. Woman’s Guild

Observed the Women’s Guild day successfully

3. Brigade

Activities/ achievements

Brigade week was observed successfully on 6th August, 2017.

Has been able to train more NCOs and officers in our parishes.

Held art work and cooking training.

Challenges

Laxity of officers.

Poor teaching techniques.

Most of the children in brigade are in boarding schools

Future plans

Define new teaching techniques.

To ensure that Brigade constitution and policies are adhered to.

4. Church School

Activities/ achievements

Held teachers’ seminar on commitment and team work.

The number of teachers and children has drastically increased.

Held a vacation Bible Study.

Training for church school teachers.

Observed their day successfully.

Mentorship programme for boy child where 180 boys attended.

Increase in the membership of men all over the presbytery.

Held a pre commissioning seminar facilitated by Rev. Hiram

Most of members are not full members hence they can’t hold offices.

Poor MMF payment.

Future plans

Commission more men.

Hold more mentorship programme for the Boy Child.

Held a leaders’ retreat.

Held some keshas, rallies, conventions and revivals in the parishes.

Lack of enough funds to facilitate the activities.

15. CONCLUSION

As the year comes to an end, we reflect back and see God’s goodness and mercies upon us. We want to thank our very able office bearers for the good job, the five parishes that we have and group leaders for their continued support towards this noble work. It is our prayer that we will not tire serving Him. Amen.
