WebbAlloy ® SteelLug Channel Track

WebbAlloy ® is a patented, high-carbon steel madeexclusively for the Jervis B. Webb Company. Thecarbon content in WebbAlloy steel makes it 45% harderthan conventional carbon steel. The process usedwhen forming the free track enables tight dimensionaltolerances to be held and provides uniformity of tracksections for smooth track joints and quieter conveyoroperation.

WebbAlloy steel has greater abrasion resistanceand better load-carrying characteristics than plaincarbon steel, promoting longer life under most serviceconditions.

The lug extension provides a larger contactsurface for guide rollers, which increasesthe load carrying capacity and stability, whencompared to standard channel free track.

Track switches can be furnished in a variety ofconfigurations. Diverging switches are referred toas unload switches where a single conveyor pathis split into two paths.

Converging switches are referred to as loadswitches where two conveyor paths come togetherinto one path.

A loading track switch does not require an aircylinder since the trolleys will rotate the tongue tothe proper position required to pass the trolleysthrough the switch. In the switching process, thereare two chains involved. Sometimes it is the samechain, sometimes the chain of a different conveyor. If it is a different conveyor, the speeds may be thesame or different.

A trolley stop is an air operated device that placesa blade in the path of a free trolley to stop thecarrier. The blade causes the dog on the fronttrolley to retract, releasing the trolley from thepower chain. The trolley is held in position at thestop by the retractable dog on the trolley and ananti-backup device which is mounted on the freetrack.

Subsequent carriers approaching a carrier in a stopare accumulated by the normal Power & Freeaction of one carrier banking against another. When the stop blade is removed, the retractabledog rises to be engaged by the next power chainpusher. Banked carriers proceed forward much thesame as automobiles at a traffic light until thecontrols again move the stop blade into positionwhich stops the next carrier.

Load bar arrangements can consist of severalvarieties, depending on length of loads beingcarried and whether or not the carrier and loadwill be accumulated on horizontal curves. Thesimplest load bar arrangement uses a Power &Free trolley in the front and a rear load trolley witha cam attachment. The carrier is either hungfrom the load bar between the trolleys or from thetrolleys themselves.

As load lengths increase, it is necessary to usea three or four trolley arrangement. Load barlengths must be coordinated with the radius ofhorizontal and vertical curves. These consider-ations apply to both overhead and invertedconveyor systems.

Webb rotary “Caterpillar” drive design engagesthe conveyor power chain directly at its pins. Thiseliminates the need for special cams or springsrequired by conventional units and prevents thetransfer of tension to load and guide wheel assem-blies.

High efficiency reducers provide effective trans-mission of power from drive to conveyor. Anautomatic overload cutoff switch eliminates theneed for shear pins.

Takeups maintain proper chain tension by applyinga constant force upon the conveyor power chain asit leaves the drive. This helps ensure smoothconveyor operation, and extends component life.

Takeups are available with a variety of adjustmentmethods including pneumatic, counterweight andspring operated.
