Polytech manufactures poly dome and metal dome that are used in
many kinds of applications. Poly dome is created with a process
used on polyester film under conditions of hot temperature and high
pressure at the same time, known as hot pressing. The end product
resulted with a switch feature widely used as control switches,
keypads, and others.

The basic poly dome configuration is designed with a layer of
silicone adhesive that is 0.08 millimeter in thickness. This is
followed by the PET dome that is 0.125 millimeter in thickness. A
spacer that is between 0.1 to 0.125 millimeters in thickness is
placed next. The contact resistant is placed just underneath the
PET dome layer and the material used is dependent on the product
itself.

The basic configuration can be extended to be incorporated into
a polyester circuitry layer that is between 0.1 to 0.125
millimeters in thickness. The advantage of poly dome is a tactile
feel with a comparable short actuation.
Poly dome constitutes the fundamental design for front panel and
polyester circuitry products. Some applications of poly dome used
in the telecommunication industry are building poly dome into
electroluminescent (EL) and light-emitting diode (LED) and then
fitting them together onto printed circuit board (PCB) or silicone
rubber key mat.

Poly dome is used in remote controllers for audio and visual
products with contact made of plastic actuators or rubber key mats.
Graphic overlay can also be applied onto poly dome to form a
variety of applications in household electronic appliances such as
rice cooker, washing machine, coffee maker, vacuum cleaner, vacuum
thermal flask, microwave oven and compact remote control.

millimeter made of stainless steel. The metal dome can be placed on
printed circuit board using pressure-sensitive adhesive film.
Metal dome has high rebound force and is able to provide more
tactile feeling with shorter actuation compared with poly dome.
This allows users to have a good clicking feel.
The metal dome can be plated with various types of materials
such as nickel, silver, copper, or gold. A metal dome array
comprises of metal domes taped together adhesive.

Metal dome arrays can be assembled onto flexible printed circuit
(FPC), printed circuit board (PCB) or front panel. The flexible
printed circuit can be built into electroluminescent(EL),
light-emitting diode (LED) and liquid-crystal display (LCD)The
characteristics of the metal dome are slim in thickness, light in
weight and ability to operate under temperatures as high as 85
degree Celsius or as low as negative 55 degree Celsius.

They are suitable to be used as electrical contact where its
long mechanical life cycle can typically reach around one million
times. The different kinds of metal dome available are circle
shaped, triangle shaped and oblong shaped.
