Don's dream lives thanks to Lions Camp Kirk Metroland - York Division Saturday, November 4, 2006 - Page: 01 Stouffville Sun - News Byline: Jim Mason Don Acton loved Lions Club Camp Kirk in Kirkfield, Ont. The Lions past zone chairman spearhead the erection of a sign at the entrance to the camp for disabled children in 1993. Even in illness earlier this year, he headed a committee of the service club that was to erect a new sign to replace the worn original. Mr. Acton, a former resident of Ballantrae and Stouffville, died last spring. But the Lions Club of Stouffville didn't let go of the dream. With the blessing of Don's wife, Marion, and their family, and after many months of navigating red tape, a new sign was erected late last month. It was an all-Stouffville project, also involving local signmaker Jim Brazier and Harry Schell of Schell Lumber. Camp Kirk is a residential camp for boys and girls six to 13 years of age who have Learning Disabilities and/or AD(H)D Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), including those with incontinence or bedwetting difficulties.
