  1. 1. Don't Travel Without Reading This! No matter what type of trip you are planning, the details can make or break the trip. You will have a much better trip by using the following advice. http://travel.state.gov/ When you travel in different countries, use ATM machines to withdraw pocket money instead of exchanging your currency with local currency. Banks get better exchange rates that you may get. You may find significant savings through the course of your trip. Try not to pack too much for your trip. The less stuff you have, the better your chances of being able to keep an eye on everything. Limit the amount of shoes you take. When you plan your next trip, pick a digital camera that will suit you on that particular trip. If you are going backpacking, you shouldn't have one with a rechargeable battery. Try to find a digital camera you can turn on and focus quickly. You don't want to miss anything memorable. When traveling around other countries, beware of fraudulent taxis. Make sure the taxi actually is legitimate before getting in. Anybody can add a taxi sign to their car, but they might not be legitimate. Workout at the gym the day before you take your flight. Being on a long flight can be incredibly boring. Your back and legs can start to cramp up after sitting for such a long time period. You can have more energy at the end of your flight when your warm up and stretch before takeoff. It is always tempting to bring unnecessary things from home when traveling. Just bring the toiletry items that you really need. Make yourself a list of the things you use daily. Pack those that are most valuable to you. Always remember to tip housekeepers and bellboys. You should give about a dollar per bag and 2 to 5 dollars per day of housekeeping. This will increase the quality of service in your hotel and make your stay more enjoyable. Not everyone finds it affordable to stay at fancy hotels, and you may even find yourself in a one-star or less hotel. If you aren't happy with your hotel, take along a doorstop. You can slide it under your door for your hotel room all night long (as well as using the chain and lock). A criminal may be able to break the locks, but they will have difficulty getting around the doorstop. Booking trips online is like one-stop shopping for vacation planning. Travel sites aid in planning out your travel itineraries with little effort. Just use your home computer to book your flights, make hotel reservations and arrange for a rental car. All major travel websites have images of the hotels in their listings. They also include ratings and reviews by users who have stayed at the hotels. Many travel
