In 1968 Dorothy first proposed her model of

nursing care as fostering of the efficient and

effective behavioral functioning in the patient

    to prevent illness

She also stated that nursing was concerned

with man as an integral whole and is the

specific knowledge of order we require

    In 1980 Johnson published her

    conceptualization Behavioral system model

Johnsons Behavioral System Model is a model

of nursing care that advocates the fostering of

efficient and effective behavioral functioning in

the patient to prevent illness. The patient is

identified as behavioral system composed ofseven behavioral subsystem: affiliative,

    dependency, ingestive, eliminative, sexual,

    aggressive and achievement.

The three functional requirements for each

    subsystem include protection from noxious

    influences, provision for nurturing environment,

    and stimulation for growth
