ATTITUDE

The 3 pillars: Education, Citizenship, Culture, for

Reflection / Action / Interactivity…

SPORTS, after all, is about having a good ATTITUDE!

“Happiness is a journey… not a destination. Regrets don’t exist when one does everything daily to find one’s path in life. With perseverance, strength, courage, respect… and love of course. Life is an audacious opening or it is nothing at all.” Justine HENIN July 9th, 2007

Sport & Attitude 2012

8 The Tournament for 14 and under… beyond just sports!

A bit of history: Over the past eleven years, we have worked towards endowing

the tournament with an ethical dimension that is to be understood in the catch-phrase of “Sport & Attitude”. The aim of this effort is to associate athletic ambition with an educational and cultural perspective for the physical and moral development of the young talented athletes... Tomorrow’s champions are also citizens of the World.

In 2001 the Department of Hauts-de-Seine helped develop and inaugurate the first

“Citizen Action”. In the Tournament Village, the stand “Presence 92” invited the young champions and the public to discover numerous activities linked to civics, the environment, and fair-play.

Later, the course “Let’s talk straight! Smash your knowledge” increased youth

awareness for the major questions of the present day. This really marked the beginning of the SPORT & ATTITUDE concept. The following year, the Stade Français and UNESCO united sports, education, and culture so that sports would come hand-in-hand with knowledge, respect, dignity, and solidarity. Only with the presence of UNESCO could we justify such a noble ambition.

Since 7 years, the Attitude Stand, anchored in the heart of the Tournament

Village, serves to expose how much the tournament values ethics and sportsmanship, but also encourage discovery and dialogue between the athletes with cultures native to over 50 countries. All in all, the concept of SPORT & ATTITUDE essentially governs the tournament’s morality and challenges the athletes to question and form their civic values at a critical age in their prospective careers.

EDUCATION

The Messenger Tree: Messages from around the world… Bring your own and

leave behind your footprint!

True or False Activity: The themes of everyday life, questions on

counterfeiting with LACOSTE, health with the PASTEUR INSTITUTE, water, doping with UNESCO, mental and physical disabilities with the school TOULOUSE LAUTREC and the PERCE-NEIGE Association, and also ecology… Test your knowledge with the course “Agree or disagree”… Best of luck!

Permanent exhibition: Exhibitions will be put in place throughout the day in

the village. The themes: water with Eau de Paris, history with the aviator Roland Garros, sports & the Stade Français since the beginning of its existence and a presentation from WTA – ATP.

Speeches / Organized debates:

- For several years now, the Tournament has taken decisive action against doping: UNESCO and the Anti-doping World Agency (AMA) bring together coaches and players to converse on the risks of doping.

- Champions from diverse backgrounds come together: for example in the fields of rugby and math, football and biology… - A chance for the champions to share with Justine Henin, our patron.

Pasteur Institute Workshop: a scientific workshop that resembles a real

laboratory to satiate a taste for science among the young audience! Animated by the scientists of the Pasteur Institute, this workshop will allow the young apprentices to visualize, with a simple experiment, a DNA molecule, the genetic source of all living things!

CITIZENSHIP

A school for perfecting strokes on and off the court! The Tournament is committed to donate 1€ for each participant of the final draw in the Ile-de-France stage. In addition, each participant will be able to donate directly to the Pasteur Institute themselves.

“The infernal obstacle course” in partnership with the Lycée Toulouse

Lautrec, an obstacle course where everybody can experience the daily difficulties encountered by those in wheelchairs.

Focus on environmental responsibility

Our goal: to raise awareness about eco-responsibility among both the participants and the audience and staff through several measures:

- The tournament banners will be recycled by the CEDDRE (Charte Eco-citoyenne pour le Développement Durable et Recyclage des Enduits PVC).

- The tennis balls used during the tournament will be distributed to the trainers for their tennis training schools at the Stade Français then recycled within the framework of the “Balles jaunes” environmentally responsible way of disposal according to the French Tennis Federation.

- With ORIKA, an enterprise specialized in recycled cardboard furniture, we are putting into place tables and chairs that are 100% recyclable in the heart of our village.

- Preventing water waste throughout the youth: o “Operation Clean Hands” with the Pasteur Institute and Dettol (alcohol-based

hand sanitizer) o No more plastic bottles: to reduce the consumption of plastic bottles, we

encourage all the players to bring their own durable flasks and bottles and also provide some thanks to Eau de Paris. On the site, a water fountain will available for refills.

Page 10: Dossier de presse 2012 English

- The courts sprayed during the evenings: seeing as how the tournament takes place on clay courts, we emphasize that all of them be sprayed at night-fall to reduce the amount of evaporation and increase the efficiency of every liter...

the Stade Francais. Young representatives of the Perce-Neige House of Sevres will come to the tournament to spend the day. On the program: afternoon of sports initiatives with a basketball game, some mini-tennis and a golf game. the tournament at the Stade Français, the association celebrates with us this 23rd edition. A group of young umpires “Fête le Mur” of the city of Pau will supervise the international stages with umpires from the Paris Tennis League.

The PEP 92 and the recreational center Jacques Brel

We welcome for the 23rd edition of our tournament, youth from the recreational center

Jacques Brel of Garches created by the PEP 92. In this

recreational center, located in the EREA (établissement

régional d'enseignant adapté) Jacques Brel de Garches

hosts hospitalized children. Our objective is to link

sports to art and music. Over the course of two days,

kids will free their artistic imagination to explore the

associations they make to tennis. Sharing the birth of humanity, of a universe… All will project

their visions like a spontaneous dialogue: at the tip of a paintbrush each will respond to the

other.

The Encounters

The Tournament also entails meetings

between people from entirely different

worlds!

The Ambassadors Tournament: The 10th edition on Sunday, July 8th

The perfect opportunity to bring together the diplomatic world and the young “ambassadors” of sports. The young hopefuls will form a team with their country’s ambassador and then have breakfast side-by-side over a “world congress” breakfast held at the Faisanderie.

The Ambassadors of Health Tournament: Saturday July 14th

The doubles Tournament reserved for young hopefuls of world tennis and the representatives of the foundation and their sponsors.
