“Being a part of Future Leaders of Irving has been one of the greatest experiences in my high school career.”

The mission of Future Leaders of Irving is to identify, educate, and develop our local youth to become future business and civic leaders.

C l ass of 2015-16

During the FLI program, students gain:• Leadership skills• Experience in public speaking and presentations• An understanding of career and educational opportunities• Self confidence• Understanding of municipal government• Introductions to leaders from the public, private and nonprofit

sectors of Irving• Practical experience working with team members from other

schools on projects• An understanding of the importance of community involvement

and volunteerism• Information about financial aid and other options for paying for

ongoing education

Modeled after the successful Leadership Irving-Las Colinas program, Future Leaders of Irving inspires student achievement and develops Irving’s next generation of business and community leaders.

The program completed its eighth session in April 2015. It has grown from three days over a single semester with 20 students to a year-long program with 40 students.

Students are selected from Irving’s public, charter and private schools. Through onsite visits and guest lec-tures, participants are introduced to local government and public safety; colleges, universities and other post-secondary programs; nonprofit orga-nizations; transportation and infra-sctucture; and private businesses.

As a result of participating in the program, students have reported an improvement in self-confidence, writing skills, problem solving and per-sonal growth as well as an expanded view of their educational and career options.
