01. P H I L O S O P H YDR. AMBEDKAR AND HIS STRONG ASSOCIATION WITH
BUDDHISM
Dr. Ambedkar saw Buddhism as an ideology that engages with the world privileging the poor and ex-ploited. His emphasis is on social gospel of the Buddha. According to him, to maintain purity in life is Dham-ma to believe that Karma is the instrument of moral order is Dhamma. And Dhamma is Saddhamma as it makes learning open to all as it teaches that mere ‘Prajna’(wisdom) is not enough, it must be accom-panied by Sila ,Karuna and Maitri. Dr. Ambedkar’s interpretations regarding the Sang-ha is that, it should be community dedicated to social service, it seems to go counter in the traditional no-tion of any monastic organization in the primary goal is the spiritual self realization of its members. These are important interprtetions of Dr. Ambedkar by this he gave new turn to Buddhism.

S O C I A L J U S T I C E According to B. R. Ambedkar, “Society is always composed of Classes. Their basis may differ. They may be economic or intellectual or social, but an in-dividual in a society is always a member of a class. A Caste is an Enclosed class.”
EDUCATION Caste is a close system and Class is an open sys-tem. Education can lead an individual to move from Caste to Class, i.e; from close system to open sys-tem. In Caste system, an individual is confined only to his or her traditional occupation. So, there is a little scope to grow. But in Class, as it is open, an individual can grow as per his or her capability. And only education can bring this change.
Ambedkar had also given lots of emphasis on re-cieving education. He said that “Educate,Organize and Agitate”. Here he had given prime importance to education. .

Objective is to create a building for social justice on Ambedkar’s Philosophy in Lutyen’s bungalow zone, following the LBZ guidelines. At the same time making the building energy efficient and mod-ern in construction.
In order to complement the texture and grain of LBZ, care has been taken to give a flavour of indo-saracenic style to the building by using red sand-stone and dome.

MODERN AND ENERGY EFFICIENT For the new buildings, the field could be wide open. The layout could provide for natural lighting and ven-tilation, thereby, reducing the need for external ener-gy input both for lighting as well as heating/cooling. Building materials used for walls/doors and windows, as also in roofs and floors could be such that energy requirement is optimized. Design of structure, speci-fications, architectural features and materials to be used should all be integrated to offer energy efficient buildings. Hence such an attempt has been made in the design.

Earth Air Tunnel:Suction fans draw air at atmos-pheric temperature into the EAT which runs 4m below the ground level (where tempera-ture remains constant through-out the year).Cooled air obtained from EAT is further purified, dehumidi-fied and distributed by central AHU.30% more energy efficient.
Displacement cooling:Cool air is introduced at the floor level of all floors and re-turn air is collected at the ceil-ing- reduces mechanical en-ergy requirement. The air needs to be cooled to relatively higher temperature than in overhead feed systems because cool air does not mix as much with the warm air which naturally rises.15%more energy efficient than conventional air distribution system.

Convention centre,seminar/conference room and theatre are located at the centre of the building sur-rounded on 3 sides with mass as these spaces re-quire conditioned air at all times.
Building masses on sides consist of library, lecture theatres, preservation section, staff room, exhibi-tion spaces of media and interpretation centre and banquet hall.
The building blocks on both sides are centrally pen-etrated with a light well which provides daylight in spaces with no windows, thereby reducing artificial lighting
Convention center takes the top most floor as it re-quires column free huge spans which is possible by using truss roofing.
To obtain maximum benefits of north light, sit out and high tea have been planned on top level with octagonal kiosks over them.
