6 Appearance, shape, dimensions and tolerances 6.1 Appearance The steels shall be well-finished and free from defects detrimental to practical use. However, for the steels furnished in coil form, the detection of defects for the whole length is generally difficult and since there is no chance to remove them, the steels sometimes may include defective parts. Therefore, the treatment for the defective part, if necessary, shall be upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 6.2 Standard for removing defects and allowable limit of remaining defects for steels The standard for removing defects and allowable limit of remaining defects for steels shall be upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 6.3 Shape, dimensions and tolerances 6.3.1 Round bar, wire rod and wire 6.3.1.1 Hot-rolled steels The standard dimension for the hot-rolled steels (round bar and wire rod) to be hot-formed into springs shall be as given in Table 3, and the dimensional tolerances shall be as given in Table 4. The dimensions and tolerances for the steels which are subjected to cold-drawing, cutting, etc. shall be as specified in clause 6 of MS 2247:2009 (P). For the wire rod, of 32 mm or less in diameter is applicable, in general.
