    EARTHQUAKE AND FIRE DRILL PLAN

    OBJECTIVE:

    1. To provide a quick review of the lecture on fire and earthquake.

    2. To familiarize the Dos and Donts before, during and after hazards.

    3.

    To brief the pupils and teachers on the basic steps on drills, to conduct the drills and toevaluate them.

    . I. EARTHQUAKE DRILL

    SCENARIO:

    A 6.5 Magnitude earthquake struck while regular class is on going at

    _________________ School. A slight shaking of the classroom building is experienced.

    A low, rumbling or roaring sound is heard. The building is creaking and rattling. Books

    are failing from the bookcase. Hanging light fixtures and plants are swaying. The desksbegin to slide a little too. After a minute a fire broke out.

    A. Alarm- One minute bell ringing (Indicates the earth is shaking for one minute)

    B. Response- Shut down the general switch at _________________ office. The teacher

    will command the class to perform DUCK, COVER AND HOLD (DCH) and

    maintain same action/ position until the bell ringing stops. All teachers are also obliged

    to perform DCH until the duration of the alarm to guide their pupils on safety duringearthquake.

    C. Evacuation- After the alarm, the teachers will command their class to proceed at theAsembly Point by twos hands over the head with the pupils near the exit to come out

    first. Do not bring anything in going out of the classroom. Particular attention should be

    given, keeping all doors unlocked, the paths of egress unblocked, all fire escapes shouldbe free from any obstruction.

    D. Assembly- Arrangement of pupils during flag raising ceremony should be appliedon the Asembly Point. Asembly Point area requirement is four person per square meter.

    All pupils should perform DCH at the assembly point.

    E. Headcount- Maintain same position while teachers are conducting headcount. Eachteacher will submit a piece of paper to the incident commander indicating the grade,

    section and actual number of pupils of their respective class. Any member of the class

    who is missing during the headcount should be reported immediately to the incidentcommander for proper disposition.

    F. Evaluation The facilitators will give their comments / suggestions and trace some

    flaws, difficulties and other circumstances to prevent repetitions of the same problem inthe succeeding drills.

    ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. Prior to the execution of the drill, all teachers will be met by the BFP personnel in a

    separate venue for some instructions regarding the activity.

    2. After 10 minutes of briefing to teachers, they will be given another five (5) minutesto give final briefing to their respective class.

    3. Next, the alarm will be sounded for one (1) minute.

    4. Repeat drills will be conducted and facilitated by the organized SDRRMG of____________________ School.

    II.

    FIRE DRILL

    SCENARIO: While a regular class is on session at _______________School, a fire onits incipient stage was discovered by a pupil at the back of ______________ building

    causing light smoke to penetrate in the adjacent classroom.

    A.

    Alarm- 10 rapid bells followed by 3 rapid whistle blowsAssumption: Warning signal is heard all through out the school premises.

    B. Response-Shut down the general switch at _________________ office. Evacuatethe classroom and bring priority items. Conduct fire fighting operation.

    (SDRRMG Firefighting Team) Inform the BFP (SDRRMG Communication Team).

    Fire Drill Behavior

    1. When the alarm sounds, stop everything, and exit safely, quickly and

    quietly.

    2. Pupils near the exit door should come out first.3. Dont panic, keep calm.

    4.

    Once out, no one is allowed to reenter until the drill is completed.

    5. Perform the crawl-low-under-smoke procedure for classroom occupantsnear the burning area engulfed by smoke.

    6. Perform stop, drop and roll procedure for anyone being caught by fire.

    C.

    Evacuation- Each group/class should proceed to a predetermined point outside the

    classroom and remain there while a check is made.

    D. Assembly- Apply arrangement of pupils during flag raising ceremony. Place thesalvaged priority items to a designated area in the Assembly Point.

    E.

    Headcount- All pupils should be in the duck ,cover and hold position while teachers

    are conducting headcount. Each teacher will submit a piece of paper to the incidentcommander (Principal) indicating the grade, section and the actual number of pupils

    counted.

    F. EvaluationThe facilitators will give their comments / suggestions and trace some

    flaws, difficulties and other circumstances to prevent repetitions of the same problem

    in the succeeding drills.
