The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) was founded in 1949

Originally called The Orton Society to honor the work of Dr. Samuel Torrey Orton

IDA serves individuals with dyslexia, their families, and professionals in the field

43 branches throughout the U.S. and Canada, and 21 global partners in 19 countries

What Does That Mean?

• Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability

• Results in people having difficulty with specific language skills, particularly reading

• Usually includes difficulties with spelling, writing, and pronouncing words

• Affects individuals throughout their lives, however, impact can change

• Can make it very difficult to succeed in typical academic environment and may require accommodations, and/or extra support services
